No this is not a reference to drunk managment

I recently took a job in Div 2 having been in the conference for 3 years. had a little money so decided to go shopping.

looking for some deffenders and the odd mid left centre. I sent my scouts out got some feed back and signed 2 players.
Having studied the stats, I though chuff these guys are good.

It was only after about 2 months of signing them and neither of them getting a game i remembered I was in the second div not the conference.

I asked my coach for a report and he said that 'fatty McTwaty should be allowed to continue has career at a lower level.'

Later, after a promotion or two, I've no idea at what level he was excellent. I bet rescouting flunkies like this accounts for 2/3 of my scouts' work.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

The benefits of shortlisting for 12 months only in CM 03/04... you have to conciously decide whether or not to keep someone

Yeah, I had that type of problem when managing Halifax up the divisions. I didn't want to just clear my whole shortlist (well over 1000 by the time I was in the Premiership) because I knew there were a small number of players on there who I'd found earlier on who could do a job in the Premiership, but come the turn of the year I tended to get reams of news items telling me that Albert Nobody had just renewed his contract with Grantham Town or whatever

A belated reply, but anyway...

I used to do some spring cleaning of my short lists at the end of the season. OK, it's technically summer-cleaning, but you get the idea. Every player aged 31 and above was removed (I used to think that 30 year olds were ok for some reason) and all those players in positions I didn't need cover for were also removed. Of course, by the end of the season, you had a good idea of where you needed to strengthen your team, so this is the reason for the position cull.

Obviously, there was always a risk the hidden gems would get removed, but what they heck. This kind of cull would also get rid of those players scouted while pished, as is frequently the case.

Is it still a Shortlist if it has over 1000 players on it?

Well, "short" is a relative word and if there are 50,000 players or whatever in the database, 1000 is relatively short :p
