How many scouts?

I have just taken my first stab at CM and LLM by taking Brentford from 2nd division to the PL in 5 years. Now that I am more familiar with the game system and overconfident, I plan on starting a new game soon with a conference level team.

My question to you is this, as we are limited to the use of our scouting staff as a means of identifying prospects, how many scouts would you consider to be too many scouts to use?

Aha, the old "how many scouts?" chestnut

We've two active Mods on here, the Aussie Taipan and the Scottish...me

Ask Taips and he'll say only sign one or two, he's even got a site to advise how many, ask me and I'll say sign as many as you can.

Taips' reasons come from fiscal responsibility. You wouldn't spend extortionate amounts of cash on scouts, whereas I say even the Lowest Teams in Scotland have a scouting network that covers the Country.

So...it's your choice. Do you go with option a), be responsible with cash, or with option b), scout to your heart's content?

The number of scouts I employ tends to ebb and flow depending both on how much cash I have and how many decent scouts actually want to work for me.
Example: if I have (rare) pots of cash and lots of interested - or at least not disinterested - and GOOD scouts, I may well hire a few of them.
If, however, I have (much more common) very little green to spread around and very few candidates worth signing, I may stick with what I have.

Good of you to pick up on the "red baron" reference. Perhaps I should strap myself into a fine low level German club in my next game!

I had a fine time at Wehen a few games back. The step up from 2. Bundesliga to 1. Bundesliga was the hardest I've ever made in CM. Good idea to try there :thup:

I consider myself lucky if I'm ever fortunate enough to actually find 2 scouts willing to sign for me. If I had more than 2, I'm not sure I'd know what to do with them anyway.
