I'd been using the Scout Where You Can Tour Ethic in my Hereford save and found it added a lot to the experience, particularly because it represented an extra carrot for success like the TV money.
Anyway a funny thing happen. After winning D1 and earning promotion to the Premiership I finally (after two seasons in D1) had other countries show up on the tour screen (all of Europe). So I recalled all of my current scouts (who had assured me that they'd seen there last Berwick Rangers match) and hired a few more and had them spread across the continent in an effort to find foreign talent.
Then the snag happened, when the data update happened and the table switched to the Premiership table, I went to check the tour screen again and it was back to only the four countries on the Isles.
What gives here?
I'm thinking it would be simply ridiculous for me to have to recall all my scouts and have everyone back watching Berwick Rangers games.
Is this a reasonable exception to the SWYCT ethos? I realize I can do whatever I want, really, but since I'd been following the rule faithfully up until now...
It is generally accepted that once you reach the premiership you can send your scouts all over the world regardless of the touring screen and you might want to take a look at this thread.
It's like the Norwegian clubs, almost every Norwegian club sends a scout to the old eastern europe. But from the tour screen, you may just scout Denmark and Sweden...
As noted, it's a guideline, and it's really meant for when your side is too low in cash to be doing world-wide scouting. It's unrealistic to be 5mil in debt and sending scouts off with crazy expense accounts to Australia from the UK. Hence, SWYCT.
My usual guideline is once I see my finances are going to be rated "secure" by the end of closed season, (that is, when the season tickets come in) I send my scouts wherever I can.
And, as it's a guideline, when I started this recent game in Germany, I'll admit that although the tour screen didn't include Poland, I thought I could justify sending a scout there a whole lot more than I could to Italy, where I could tour. So I didn't go to the boot, but I did go next door to my right. I don't think a lightning bolt is going to strike me for that...then again, you might not want to stand too close.
