quote:
Hey, it's really all about doing the realistic tihng insofar as the game allows it. Whether your training is LLM spirit depends on how you derived it. If you used "Joe Cheater's Super Duper Session guaranteed to raise all attibutes by 5 per season!" that would be bad. On the other hand, if you designed a training regime yourself and found it acceptable using it again should not be a problem. The idea is to approach it realistically.
Think about it like this: let's say you built a regime and found that you could consistently improve finishing for players that used it. Hey, you hit on a good training technique. Why would it be bad to assume that you, as a manager didn't knoqw about or like this regime as an amateur coach (or wherever in the footie world you came from before becoming a pro manager)? AGain, it's more about the spirit of LLM- don't cheat, don't exploit the game engine to get results that are not realistic.

Ok thats cool, i can reuse my old training method as even a brand new manager to a football team will have some sort of past experience with training schedules and tactics.
What about my question about scouting ?

quote:
What about manually looking at clubs and getting my scouts to give me a report on the players that i like the look of from that team. Is that allowed ?

Again, it is upto you. Do you think it is realistic for a manager to have the squad sheet and a list of attributes for another team? If so, then you go ahead, if not, then just trust your scouts. |

The question Lax is how do "like the look of them" --i.e. what is it about them that catches your eye? Have you gone to a team and started clicking on players to look at their ratings? If so, that doesn't work for me, even if you scout them first.
If you get news items about people or find out about players in other ways a manger might then send a scout to get a report. But just looking through teams rosters and picking players to scout doesn't fly with me. You could I suppose send a scout to look at a certain club. There are certain moments when it proves fruitful to do so...

In the end that's up to you. Some people don't do it, others do. Personally, I don't have a problem with it but would feel more comfortable if the reason you're scouting a player from that team is because you noticed him playing well, rather than looking randomly through squads. Fog of war made this less of an issue tho.

If I get a news item about them, it's fair to send a scout to check on them. Similarly, most would say if you see them on the League leaders board, it's fair to send a scout after them.
Also I'll scout a competition for a couple weeks, then scan the results and send scouts to get individual reports on players.
But just scouting up and down other club rosters? Maybe if they were national team rosters. But then, how many of those could you afford in the Conference or even 3rd Division?

For me, I find my players to sign or loan in* through three means.
1. Found through scout reports using SWYCT guideline.
2. Found through news reports, then scouted
3. If a opposition player catches my eye during a game we play, he is then scouted.
* I sometimes use the search field for loans, but I have my own house rules I abide by when I use this screen which for the most part is a rare occassion.

I've just caught up with ths thread and skimmed it; I'd just like to add my tuppence worth in answering the original question.
I always manage average/poor lower league clubs (always Conference if in England). I use CM Scout; as far as I'm concerned this breaks the spirit of the true LLM ethos and I don't consider myself anything close to a purist.
However I make my own 'Ã*nhouse' rules; since I'm not using real scouts I consider myself personally as the manager doing the scouting. Thus I only consider players CM Scout has thrown up who are in or were in sides we'd have really played in our sub-Conference league before we were promoted or in the Conference provided we've played them. Thus in travelling around the North West of England looking at players I have to ignore the thousands of Portuguese startlets CM Scout throws up. However the fella from Barrow with potential of ten isn't gong to get snapped up either.
In my second season one lad came from Iceland (not using CM Scout) and I then used the utility to find other playes from the same league and geographical proximity he'd come from - i.e. his mates!
So I make my own rules; they're sufficiently restricting to give me a feel of realism and a challenge (I didn't win promotion) and it all keeps me very happy indeed, but I'm not going to go and claim that I'm something I'm not.
Maybe some other semi-LLaMas might like this approach.

Feck off
It suit us right, though. If you place 3 whole shots towards goal on home fixture, then you should not win |
