Does the Dutch league work properly?
I had a very enjoyable dave in the Belgian lower leagues (which also use the period system) till I spotted how screwed up they were:
Bascially, the league position of the current period was used to assess how well a team was doing, rather than the overall league. Thus, a team that was top of the overall league after two periods, might suddenly sack their manager if they lost the first game of the third period and were thus bottom of that period's league.
I think I saw a post somewhere describing the same problem in 03/04.

I played it but won the league in first season, so I don't know about any strange sackings. Didn't see one tough, only sackings I've seen were "normal" ones.
And about the Periods: the number one in the period wins it and qualifies for the play-offs. If they already won a period then the 2nd placed team gets the play-off spot. At the end of the season the 4 winners of the periods are split into the 2 play-off groups and the numbers 16 and 17 from the Premier are added to the 2 groups. The highest placed 2nd division teams who didn't win a period go into the play-offs as well.
Play-offs are easy: play 6 games and finish first. Then you be in the Premier
My hometeam knows the play-offs best in the country. Qualified 9 times in the last 10 years and NEVER promoted :o
