Carrplos:

Exactly my point. ATM it's a workaround.

IMHO, asking for a stadium expansion is like a workaround for the problem of being in the top division with a 2500 capacity stand. IRL it just wouldn't happen, and it's as if the AI isn't smart enough to realise this so you need to remind it occasionally.

Heh, good story MitF, but i still do think it's them who decide.

Mind you, i'd love to see the board taking charge of transfers, i.e negotiating contracts, transfer fees and the like. I think the manager's part should be restricted to indicating which players he'd like to have.

The difference between continental "coaches" and UK "managers" I believe.

It was more like pie in the face yesterday. :o

I was fortunate enough to be at the game and it looked for a moment like they were taking it a bit too seriously, hanging on to a one goal lead and all.

Luckily, they brought the exploding car on in the second half and did that hilarious routine where they fall over their own feet....

Shame there won't be a derby next year, especially for you as you may find laughs hard to come by in the Prem.

Just think of how much fun you would have had at the sight of the Big Brown Grimsby Bear trying to walk on his hind legs while your strikers stuck six past us. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I was hoping you guys could do us a favour, too! Can't rely on you for anything

While walking the derby might have been fun, I've always found them overrated. Too much hype for the game, they're never good football (which is probably why they don't get on telly anymore) because everyone is so hyped. Besides which, Delia doesn't sell that many pies and we could use the parachute payments (I'm under no illusions about how hard next year might be).
However, the corpulent broad ain't warbling yet There's still time to choke.

Do what you want.

But can you really see a manager, whilst asking his chairman for a bit of money to sign a player and a fresh lick of paint for the portacabin at the training ground, saying:

"Oh, and by the way, how about making the North stand a bit bigger?"<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I could see a manager asking the chair about his plans for the clubs, to find out how ambitious he is. A bit like the Irishman who now manages Villa, when he was at Leeds. In that case, he didn't like the scaled down ambitions, and walked out.

In 01-02, I got York City to where we won 3 EPL titles in 4 years, but the board wouldn't expand the stadium to a size where I could afford the caliber of player I needed to win in Europe. So I went to Everton, which had just failed in the Div. 1 promotion playoffs. I always took the "expand stadium" request as NOT a direct request, NOT a manager sticking his nose where it clearly doesn't belong. I always deemed that a general way to find out if the board wanted to make the club bigger.

Some of y'all are too literal.

Besides, remember the orig. question just think the board should inform the manager of such plans.

David,

I agree, and that's how I'd see the contract issue too. In a negotiation, it'd be natural, especially as a manager's reputation starts getting better, to see if the board 'really' wants the club to succeed. How ambitious are they really?

Original question? There was one?

David, you'll soon realize that there's no use trying to keep things on topic, they always move off

Ah, the asker of the Origninal Questionis back.

Of course the answer is 42.

What I meant was being advised of the planned expansion didnt happen. I agree the Manager asking for the expansion is unrealistic, but I didnt realise the board would expand without at least advising the manager. I would also like better training facilities and the Board may be building them but i don't know this as they don't notify, so I have to ask to find out .

Personally I would prefer the ask option wasn't there but they notified you of the decision to do it so you know it happening.

I did like Monkey in the Fog's suggestion of the whole catering menu though.

Managers contracts would be cool if done right but really you would have to be a manager in demand to be able to negotiate with the board expansions etc, most managers would just be grateful they got the job.
