Do what you want.
But can you really see a manager, whilst asking his chairman for a bit of money to sign a player and a fresh lick of paint for the portacabin at the training ground, saying:
"Oh, and by the way, how about making the North stand a bit bigger?"<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Take this for what you will...
According to someone at the FM General Questions board, when I said I didn't think it was realistic that a manager would ask for a new stadium (I still wanted it in the game, just having the board do it on their own), the Arsenal manager wouldn't sign a new contract unless they committed to building the stadium. Slightly different than expansion, I suppose.
Either way, I don't think you can say for sure it's unrealistic to ask for an expansion... if I'm a manager, there's nothing stopping me! I mean, if I ask for more money and they say "There is none", I could casually suggest expanding the ground.
but surely including a contract negotiations for managers contracts (us and for the AI) would create good and bad media reports and affect the teams morale, if the board dont approach you to renew your contract, but the players like you they may get angry at the board. It isnt just something that we have to click on to get to another screen, it should be something that affects the team's performances.

Go and play TCM if that's what you want.
Do you really think that the manager asks the board to expand the stadium? I can believe that they may ask for better training facilities, but not for 3,000 extra seats.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
But you don't ask for 3,000 seats, you just ask in general to expand. The board decides how many seats. From my experience, they turn it down most of the time, anyway. Until SI program it where the board does this stuff on their own, I think it's necessary.
You shouldn't be able to ask for a stadium expansion for the simple reason that it's a financial decision. Remember that message? "You look after the team and we'll look after the finances". The board have to take a lot of things under consideration before expanding the stadium, none of which concerns the manager, of all people.

So we shouldn't be able to buy, sell or talk about contracts with players either?
In real life, the board would handle stadium expansions, moves, etc, but in the game, they don't. I think it's one of those things were you have to work within the programming of the game...
I think lots of managers have a say on the players their board buys. The opposite also happens a lot of times. There's a difference though: buying players is a financial decision as well as a manager's decision. Expanding the stadium is a strictly financial decision AFAIK in real life. Never heard of a manager threatening to resign because the board refused to expand the stadium.

Once again, the programming of the game does not allow for this...

I'm sure that would appeal to supporters of the more culinary-minded clubs (jcb?).
Just imagine the challenge of serving a really top-class half-time snack and making Delia yellow and green with envy. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Aha! Now I know why BFJ is spouting such nonsense about the game these days. He's too busy with his pies!
And, speaking of BFJ, what's in those pies? Can I get some? He won't give it up, will he? You're good going forward, but defending is a rather integral part of the game (apologies if anyone considers that tipping ) We forgot how do do it for 45 minutes on Saturday and let Burnley get 3. Thankfully Delia's pie sales got us a half-decent striker or three and they scored more.
I'm making a generic point, you've taken the 3,000 out of context.

Great idea, they could use the non-existent money to pay for the expansion.
Mr Wenger didn't believe that his team could continue to compete with Man Utd when they are only bringing in (roughly) half the revenue through the gate. That's an exception. Wenger is an extremely good manager with ambitions to manage his team to winning the Champions League. He wanted to know that the board shared his ambitions, otherwise I'm sure that many other teams would have been queuing up to help him fulfil his goals. Not many managers are that invaluable to a club that they could make those sorts of things clauses in a contract.
We (Cardiff) aren't getting a new ground (30k capacity, expandable to 60k) because Lennie Lawrence thought that it would be a good idea - Sam Hammam wants to maximise his investment in the club.
Manager contracts would be a relatively good idea, but keep it simple. Like the player contracts allow there to be a few clauses; the board would present your contract with some of them included, and you could then negotiate by selecting a few more/deselecting ones that you don't like. But I wouldn't expect the clauses to be much more than the start of season expectations, only with longer timescales i.e. expect promotion within three years.

Valid point.
I think my main argument is just that until SI program it so the board will consider/do expansions without the manager being involved, which would be realistic, the user has to be able to expect this somehow.
