well thats how it is starting to feel, started a new game with Hereford and as you all know they have little or no $$$$ for transfer and to add salt to the wound I have a wage bill that needs reducing, which means selling the only 2 players that are any good as they are on 900 a week and to make matters worse went looking for players, anyone, but when I started searching and asked ass manager to filter out (you know) to my surprise the screen came up blank!
So here I am game 12, sitting 14th (not too bad I feel) but have a $$$$ cash problem which if I don't fix will send club bankrupt but even after listing no one is interested in buying my players and now with injuries I am using greyed out players to make up numbers for games, the board and fans are happy but I think the way I am going it is going to wind up $$$ in trouble.
I wonder if this is what it is like in Hereford for real, what I cannot understand is other teams in confernce have players on 1000's a week and me, can't afford more than 500 a week if lucky so players leaving as well (not renewing contracts and or asking too much).
Sounds ominous but then a again if your foolhardy enough it'll turn it to be a great triumph for you, stick with it until things take a turn for the better/or leave when they go tits-up!
I dream of 14th place. I started a new game today, played 10 games, drew 1 and lost the rest. I was sitting rock bottom. I went on holiday and came back in February finding myself 2nd bottom, using the same tactics and players.
Clawed my way out of relegation and ended up finishing 18th. Hopefully next season I can match your standards and finish in the dizzy heights of 14th. TBH, I wouldn't want it any other way, well except winning.
In my 5th year of the Conference, and yes it is a struggle. There are some sides which are almost a shoo-in for promotion, while others like Hereford are there to make up the numbers.
I laugh when I see people on GQ saying how easy it is to get a side from the bottom to the top. LL Management is a financial nightmare if you play by the guidelines, and so it should be.
Personally I think selling players is a backward step, as you need to breakout of the Conference before the recievers come in. You need those players. To keep yourself from drowning in a sea of debt you need to have money coming in from other areas, while you struggle.
Thats why the FA cup doesn't suck arse. Good runs in this cup will keep the dogs away from the door, or at least slow thier progress. The money received through gate takings is the only reason the club I am looking after has not gone under.
I am the only poor manager that actually keeps a spreadsheet of the yearly figures, so I can see where we are spending the money year after year?
Hereford are second in real life and the only challengers to Chester City who are top. Seems the game doesn't like them as they are perennial strugglers in it!
I too look at finances, even though my current save has brought me to Villa Park. It's become an automated move after a few seasons of bankruptsy (spelling probably) with Halifax. Every penny. If i see more money is spent in one month, comparing it with the previous one, i run amuck.
Unfortunately, cm03-04 has been too easy so far in my experience. Cm3 was the definition of struggle in every level: money, players, tactics, staff, you name it. I envy other people's struggle, tbh. That's not bragging btw, it's a lament, for the time being.
i added Staines to the league, removed all their players. Spent their 30k budget on 5 players (selected from a very limited choice - for example, only 1 goalkeeper was available).
half a season gone by and i'm second despite two thrids of my team usually being composed of greyed-out players
