Grr...the Vans Trophy is the least sucking of all the cups, after all, since when do the mighty Southend and Blackpool (ok they've both been there before), or in the case of me and my CM game, Darlo, grace the Millenium Stadium? Never! (Not counting play-off finals, always get knocked out anywho ) Yeah, you won't get drawn against manure or chelskum like the other cups but at last some glory can be brought to the little obscuritys we all like to manage. I think the vans trophy is kinda pretty cool as far as cups go.

The Vans trophy only avoids sucking if you actually win the fecking thing. Otherwise, pretty pointless.

In real life, too, although I did once go to a game (in a previous incarnation of the competition) where Northampton were at home to Leyton Orient in a first round, second leg, having lost the first leg 5 - 0. If it had been 1 - 1, I wouldn't even have thought about going, but I couldn't bear the thought of there being a miniscule chance of me missing one of the greatest comebacks of all time

As far as I'm concerned, it's just extra games to play without the bonus of a potentially lucrative tie at manure or the like.
I usually let my fringe players and kids play those games. I had my Stevenage stiffs win the thing once, a feat that has since been put into perspective by my current game where I observed (from France) Stevenage walking away with the conference in 03-04, showing it was much more down to the strong squad than my management.

The minnie FA Cup played by the Conference & other non-league clubs & the the Vans Trophy do indeed suck arse. They never seem to get a good crowd in, and the prizemoney is pittance. That is where the youngesters and want-to-be's get a run in my game.

The FA Cup on the other hand always draws large crowds & the prizemoney is much better. The FA Cup ties over the past seasons are the only way we have kept ourselves out of receievership, and I always field the strongest possible side in these ties.
