Default Is it me or the game!!!???

Does anyone else have players who receive the ball in space and just stand there until they get tackled? usually resulting a shot at my goal. The tempo is quick, there not set to hold ball up. and passing is direct. Winds me up soooooo much!

If this is happening to you there will more than likely be a good reaon for it. Either, as mentioned, the player in question has a certain attribute that is causing him to hold onto the ball too long. Or it may be down to your tactics in some way. Perhaps the mentalities of the players is set too far apart meaning there are not players close enough to the player in question and giving him no decent options when it comes to making a pass

My defensive midfielder (with an average rating over half a season of 7.30 or so) is ALWAYS doing that.

I've set him on regular through balls and have a high tempo but he is regularly caught in posession and loses the ball. I lose count of the number of times we conceded goals from this.

Maybe he is regularly looking for a time to play a through ball but gts caught in possesion because he can't find the right time to pass?

I noticed that effect when I was playing with a 4-1-3-2, but it's disappeared entirely when I switched to Croat's 4-2-3-1.

For a couple of games I switched back to my old tactic and would you believe it, the DMC kept getting caught in possession.

My suspicion is that the DMC has no one to pass to, so he dithers and gets caught out, but playing with 2 DMC's, he always has the option just to pass it square.

So the question becomes, how can you support your DMC by giving him options to pass?

Maybe your forwards have too great an attacking mentality, so there's always 4 or 5 strung across the field at the shoulders of the opposition defenders?

Could be that one of your strikers needs to drop deep (b-arrow) to pick up the through balls?

Could be the decision stat, as mentioned before.

Could be that your team is too wide, meaning your wingers are on the far side of an opponent.

Have a play around with your tactic to see what makes a difference. For me, having two (creative) DMC's helped.

My DM does this all the time too. His passing and everything else is set on mixed so it's not really down to my instructions. If he can't find someone to pass to, he can always hoof the ball upfield but he never does. He is just too narrow minded. He keeps spinning around his axis until someone comes and takes the ball away.

About 1/3 of the goals I conceive is down to this problem. Yes, I could change my formation to avoid this but it's working so well apart from this, that I don't want to ruin it. It took me months to tweak it. I've tried everything with the DM but he keeps doing the same thing.

I've seen a lot of people mentioning the same DM problem so my guess is that there is some sort of fault with this position in certain formations like the classic 4-4-2.

Glad it's not just me. I've had a good think, and I find it happens more using the "direct passing" and/or "attacking" mentality instruction. Everyone runs forward and he's looking for a killer pass. Hardly ever happens when it's a short passing game, which I use against the bigger teams.

Partly explains how I knocked Inter out of the Uefa cup as a mid-table Leeds side in a slow, short, defensive passing game, but lost to Championship Charlton in the FA cup using attack-direct (was 2-0 down by half because of dithering on the ball by different midfielders).

OK, How do you also stop your defenders running forwards when a through ball is played at them. im not playing offside. this also makes me cry!
