Thing is this another area where the ME is unrealistic.

If you look at a real game and see a player with no options you do not see them dither for such a long period of time, spin around and then lose the ball.

Real life players will tend to try and make a pass, any pass- but one that depending on their passing ability may fail.

The idea behind it is good, just the implementation/manifestation is poor.

Or they could even take the player on- ok its not all the time we see it, but everybody here mustve seen a non-attacking player unexpectedly skip past a player with the ball and get an "Ole!".

I agree with george.

your DM is probably set to more defensive mentality then your team is, damn he is DM try to give him more team mentality, more creative freedom, run wit ball and forward runs to mixed. and don't play him on short passing.

I noticed when you play your both MC on quite same mentality and forward runs to mixed this problem gets solved, but not entirely as mentality is a little weird this year

also the problem is that players play too much to the tactics it's like they don't have their own brain...

Sorry, meant also to say that many of the tactical fixes for this highlight where FM is lacking on the tactical side, where we are almost having to teach the players how to achieve the simplest things.

I remember back when I used to play football competitively that if a player didnt have an option or that players werent within passing range that either the player on the ball would be shouting "come to me!" etc, or the manager would be telling us this in training.

Just because we might have a wide formation it shouldnt mean that players should not have the intelligence to "come" to passes.

These things should all be givens for pro footballers yet in FM it sometimes feels like we have to get everything "just" right.

So rather than having to do it all in the awful tactical interface we should be given a means of communicating these things without touching sliders- be it something to work on in training, shouted from the touchlines or as part of the teamtalk.

How much easier and intuitive (and realistic) would it be to just tell our players that they need to support each other and give each other passing options.

SI really need to stop adding/tweaking these little things until we have a tactical interface or way of communicating with players worthy of the complexity they are trying to achieve.

They must go hand in hand.

 to what Mitja and George Graham said. It’s like players have no footballing brain or instinct whatsoever. They remind of that episode of the Simpsons where Burns does a fake fire drill at the nuclear plant and one guy is seen running around in circles shouting “Fire!Fire!Fire!”. It’s as if the players get stuck in a programming loop based on the match engine variables and don’t know what to do.

Whether or not footballing instinct is possible with current AI and processing power is a whole other debate, and one which I am too misinformed about to either initiate or contribute to

as far as I know every football player wants to be sucesfull; to make his pass, to cut opositions, to run over his oponent and not to alow him to do that.

I agree with george that coming for the pass is basics in football. but they don't do it, even those who have PM "comes deep for the ball".

I want to say even though it's a game we are managing people not robots. even when you say your player not to play long passes he will try those from time to time. it's in our nature.

we can't say to our players to come to the pass/ that we are too strached, to hug the line and that's a shame.
