I've seen this hapen way too often, so I want to ask what you guys think.
I'm leading by 1 goal 2 goals or 3 goals,in the half, I always tell my team not to get careless. I'm a pretty strict manager and I want dicipline. Ok, if we are up by 4 goals by the half, I tell them that I am pleased or relax, with no pressure.
I've noticed that 2 or 3 players after the game would get angry or confused cuz of my team talk in the half. I just told them to be careful. I don't get it.
I never use it really, probably for this reason.
Maybe it's a trust thing. They think they shouldn't need to be told that? Maybe they think it belittles them.
I think it's more of a wording problem. You read it as one thing but the computer sees it as another if you get me. It's sometimes hard to interpret what sometihng mean in Fm.
You can use the don't get careless option, just keep a note of who gets angered. It might be related to a particular personality type, e.g. low Temperament.
If it's the same usual suspects, just change their half time team talk to Have faith or something else.
I posted something about this a few weeks ago, incidentally.
It seems a matter of interpretation. For example, I tend to read 'don't get careless' as 'keep your focus, concentrate, don't let them back in'. But the players seem to take it as 'we're a goal up, but I don't trust you lot not to blow it!'
When I'm three goals up at half time, anyone on a 9-rating, I tell them I'm delighted. It's usually the strikers or wingers.
Unless we've been peppered and the GK or defenders have had an outstanding game, they usually rank about 7.
Not sure if the IA is that advanced, but in real life, this tends to make people complacent. Therefore, telling your 7-rated players to not get complacent is logical, but praising your 8-9-10 rated ones either with "pleased" or "delighted" often means they relax and sometimes score more. They are also less likely to throw a hissy fit if the score remains the same and you sub them on 70mins for a rest.
It's not a foolproof formula, but so far I get more good results than bad.
Agree we should have maybe another couple of options, though. Maybe a discussion for another forum or thread, tho.
The problem with player and media interaction in the game is that you are only presented with a handful of options, and your real intentions may be "none of the above". You may also find that what you mean in a particular statement is not what the programmers of the game meant. THis can be really frustrating until you get the hang of it.
The good news is that the way in which certain choices of response are interpreted in the game remains consistent, so you shouldn't get blindsided once you get used to them. As far as "don't get careless" goes, I only use it when I've had trouble in recent matches holding on to leads. I used it a lot more in FM07 than I do in 08, because 2-0 leads don't seem to be the kiss of death they used to be.
