Now when FM08 first came out I was very critical of the game, even with the first patch I still felt very harshly treated by SI. But instead of coming on here and moaning I read some informative posts and blogs online and started the game with a fresh approach. The best thing I did was download a training schedule as training is something I have never got used to in any manager game. Doing this I didnt see as cheating I saw it as being realistic as some managers IRL arent good coaches and some are.
Then when I sorted that out I worked on my tactic I have always liked 442 so worked on a standard 442 formation with my own tweaks, played the pre season games and while watching the highlights noticed things that I didnt like so changed them in my Tactics, I only watch the games on Key Highlights and that was enough to notice things. Its obvious if you see you Full back closing down a winger and getting skinned it would be better to have him standing off the winger more.
Too sum up IMO the people who moan about this game saying they dont have enough time are just looking for excuses, heck I dont have loads of time too play the game I like to get through a season ASAP and I have been able to without much fuss, obviously if your a small team and you have Man U away in the cup you are going to change things. Football Manager has evolved and you can play how you like either very in depth changing teams and tactics for every match or like the way I am playing and having success.

Think it was from CM Frenzy its really good and just hired good coaches for each section (Defending, Attacking etc). Like I say IRL training is for some and not for others, in the same way some managers IRL are good motivators but rubbish tacticians.

It actually does'nt take long to set things up at the start of the game. Set the training schedules and leave them to it.

Decide on your tactics and stick to them as best possible. Tactical success does take time and patience. The reward when you get the good results and trophies is well worth the effort.

I too don't have the opportunity to spend countless hours playing FM. But with each release I've always managed to get the best out of the game, played numerous seasons at different levels and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
