Hello all, now i'd like somone to clear something up for me here. I'm currently managing At.Madrid and doing really well,last game I played was away at Sevilla,and this as happened, either this is a bug or I dont know the offside rule. Just before half time Forlan as a goal ruled out for being offside,yet Aguero pulled the ball back from the dead ball line, forlan buried the cross from the edge of the 6 yard box yet was given offside, now as I understand the rule a player cant be offside if he was behind the player who passed the ball, i've just been fined nearly £3k by the spanish FA for saying the officals are blind.

Can someone tell me if i'm wrong aboutthe rule or as the game made a mistake?

My understanding as a qualified referee is that you cannot be offside if:

i. Not in advance of the last two defending players (incl.GK)
ii. You are behind the player playing the ball
iii. The ball is played off an opposing player

The ball must be played forward so if the ball was pulled back from the byline then you cannot be offside.

It's really hard to tell in this game if you were offside.

I've critisized the ref for plenty of goals in which looked offside but apparently wern't.

What happened before Aguero made the pass? If the ball was played forward, with Forlan in an offside position, and Aguero ran onto it to make the pass, then Forlan became active and was thus offside.

You have to look at the passage of play, not just the moment the assist was made.
