I need a table for this thing already

Ok which would be best to tutor a "fairly ambitious" player?

Ambitious
Balanced (the youngster is honored to be blah blah)
Model Professional
Leader

I also have an unambitious fella (not quite determined though) and a determined "rotation player"

Personally i don't take notice of their personality description when assigning tutors. Personality descriptions are assigned from the players hidden attributes (eg, ambitious, pressure, loyality, professional) which i don't think can be altered ingame once they are set.
The only way I got a "clash" between the two is when my tutor had a lower determination stat than the youngster. Obviously the more determined wanting to learn youngster got pi55ed off by the lazy tutor. Thats the only stat I look out for.

Hmm, and yet I had a clash between a "Driven" tutor (Det.20) and a "balanced" youngster (Det.12)

I believe that it also has to do with the teamwork and workrate. The tutor and the tutee cannot have very different teamwork and workrate stats. If they are 3 figures apart, or less, it's a good bet that they will get along okay.

I welcome any differing viewpoints, because I'm not entirely sure this is a "rule". It's just what works for me since I saw someone mention it in this forum.

Then you have language considerations, age difference (if the tutor is considerably older then it's better), and so on.
