It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Help with Man City

Hi currently with Man City & struggling with tactics, Generally play a basic 4-4-2, but struggling away from home at not bad at home.

Kasper Schmeichel
Micah Richards
Ben Thatcher
Sylvin Distin
Curtis Davies
Shaun Wright-Phillips
DeMarcus Beesley
Joey Barton
Ousmane Dabo
Darius Vassell
Georgios Samaras

Can anyone suggest a tactic, not lookin for miracles but just a good starting base

Thanks in advance

Hey you got Shaun back good man.
You have loads of pace down the wings and two tough tacklers in midfield so why not get the ball wide early and whip it in to big Sam.
Sam =Target Man put him in the list (don’t tick use target man)
Set S.W.P and Beasley as aim cross =target man
Set counter attack yes
Set mentality defensive
Set creative freedom low for the whole team
Set concentrate passing to wings yes
Set closing down to often
Set SWP and Beasley run with ball forward runs and cross often set attacking mentality high and closing down lower then the rest of the team give them small forward arrows.
Set Dabo never for forward runs with ball. Normal for through ball tacking high.
Set Barton more attacking than Dabo forward runs and runs with ball, long shots some times.
Thatcher and Richards forward runs and runs with ball some times.
Set Distan to ultra defensive mentality and slightly lower closing down then the rest of the back four.
Set Davies to slightly higher closing down and tackling often.
Set Sameras to attacking mentality and creative freedom to high. Closing down low. Forward runs and through balls often everything else normal.
Set Vassell to forward runs and runs with ball often set his mentality to the highest in the team.
I had great success with City using tactics like these in FM06

hi there Guv. I too am with Man city. Here is a little something for thought. My away record has been the best in the league for three seasons. I play 4-1-2-1-2. Sometimes I switch to 4-1-2-2-1. Advice swap Samaras for Okaka and break-in Sturridge (that kid is class in real life) Really impressed with signing of Davies and WP. Still bring in Digard for £300.000 he is more balanced than Barton. Infact he never kicks up a fuss. Moreover, he is solid in the holding role and great long range shooting ability. For ACM go for Cardenas or higuain. Play it like this

1.Isaksson

2. Trabelsi 6. Davies 5. Distin 3. Bale

sorry....

1. Isaksoon
2.Trabelsi 6.Davies 5.Distin 3.Bale

4.Digard

7.Wright Phillips 11. Guardado

8. Cardenas

9. Sturridge 10.Okaka

Set cb to pure defensive character but allow Distin to put through balls (good decisions, passing, ant and creat allow him to run sometimes. Put digard 3/4 def with long shots and through balls, even crossing set to mid (he makes the right decision everytime so no need to stick indicator to always. all players close down accept strikers. Make WP and Guard work. Set training sched for Guard to WB kind of sched (reposition to LB) it aids his defensive capabilities and thus enhances his all round game. Set Guard to some through balls and long shots and dribs but for season 1 and 2 restrict his creative and flairish play. this enhances his dev over long haul and makes him into disciplined wc player. guard crossing set to mid from mixed (aim for target man). Whereas WP cross reg drib reg and get forward constantly (be prep to change focus to right hand side. Afteral, trabelsi (rb) can be a real gem if you give him creative freedom, lots of forward runs/dribbles,crosses after a coupleof months ettling in. Get Digard to keep his eye slightly to the right in order to cover. Set Okaka to target man and have Bale, guard, cardenas and Dig focusing their crosses, passes to him. After one season you can get OKAKA to hold up ball. make sure team attacks 3/4 away from home. Set sturridge to mid everything (OKAKA AND STURRIDGE BOTH EXCLUSIVE ATTACK. Sometimes get OKAKA to track back he can be quite effective. Cardenas has true potential. he will become a true workaholic if you run him into the ground. be careful with him he does have tendency to miss time tackles in the early days, but he soon comes around and becomes defensively sound attacking mid. Set all to hard tackling. Within htree months most of them are comfortable with this and makes man c formidable great attack, commited and hard to beat. Alternatives (definatly get Bale he will give you 14-15 assists even though for the most part technically he can be moribond. Still, his fk's are out of this world. Check Stats at end of season for goals from direct/indirect fks. I have not forgot about Richards. He is fantastic! 1st Season play him in as many different positions as possible. get him to become attack minded as well as defensive. Than look to revert him back to Cb within 3 years with his newly found attacking ability paired with his defensive skills, stregth and good decisions he will make an awesome centre half or def mid in long term. Cut Beasleys loan short. He amounts to nothing, mediocre at best. Look at loaning Ben Arfa (he will develop around a disciplined squad to develop defensive ability in hand with his excellent flair. Adds a new dimension to games at times and allows you to put guard to lb if bale is struggling against a tricky winger. Hope this helps. Look for players in the OKAKA, Digard or Guard mode for their positions. Make the most of sturridge. Vassell, as fast as he is, is so inconcistent he has to go (best bet to wigan they will pay over the odds for an established name!) Barton will not show enough respect early on and can really ruin the dev of the squad. get good bucks for him. He won't be missed.

oh yes add counter attack and have defense ling just millimetre behind mid point.

great throw in takers righards, distin, cardenas, distin. corners do not use digard inspite of his quality crossing and corners. he will become useful in the box or just outside over long haul. bale should do all fks and crosses. distin, davies, richards, okaka in box for corners. cardenas short.. etc etc

Glad to finally see a mancity post.
I only ever play ManCity in the premiership,

Doing well makes up for paying £500 each season to watch dross....

I was really really stuggling with 07 (nearly fell out of love with FM) but employed the Rule of Two (RoT) tactics..and haven't looked back.
trying to find the link now.

Waiting for updated dB (post transfer window) to come out to get back on the hobby horse after a month off.

keep with it, nothing more satisfying that consistently being above UreNTD each season, even if its not real life

Wow, I thought I was the only person playing with Man City. haha. I won the Premier League my first season with Man City. I purchased Gareth Bales, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson and Fernando Gago before the season started. I also loaned in Paul Anderson who was a great right midfielder for me and Freddy Adu. I got rid of Corradi, Dabo, Mills, Distain, Isaakson, Vassell, Reyna, and Dickov to fund my transfers. I played a attachind 4-4-2 Diamond with Sturridge/Johnson with Samaras up top, Ireland/Barton playing AMC, Anderson MR, Adu/Beasley ML, Gago DM, Bale LB, Dunne and Richards CB, Onuha RB, and Hart GK. Hart, Richards, Dunne, Gago, Adu, and Johnson were fantastic all season long. I will look for the tactic that I used and post it up later. It was one that I found in the tactics forum.
