I'm sure it can't be just me who's seeing my team miss many one on one opportunities. When playing against Blackburn, David Villa had about 5 one on one opportunities but only scored 1. Then in the next game against Newcastle, Alan Smith had 4 or 5 great chances from one on one situations but didn't score one of them.
I've seen an improvement before this by reducing their CF to around 10, which has helped In Villa's case as he has a PPM of 'likes to round keeper' and the lower CF has seen him do this less often.
Now the rant part: How can very good players such as Villa or Smith be missing opportunities that, IRL, would be tucked away most of the time? Take Ryan Giggs' goal against Spurs on Sunday as an example: Giggs is quite a poor finisher but easily scored from that one on one chance.
Should I just give up with hoping that one on one opportunites are going to win me games and change to a more compact and shorter passing system, or are there any pearls of wisdom anyone has to remedy this?
It just happens. I just try and ride it out. Problem is it tends to happen to my entire team- I can usually nick one-nils via set pieces, but it's depressing when you're firing blanks.
The thing I despise seeing is a one on one situation and the attacker decides to dribble the ball to the corner line instead of trying to beat the keeper!
Yeah, I reckon that would be down to time wasting and perhaps a low mentality?

The thing is, it seems easier for a ST to score from a tightish angle and do an henry-style finish by curling it round the keeper with perfect placement into the corner than it is for them to score from a one on one chance where they're square onto goal.

Yeah, totally. This is why the 2d engine needs more work.

That's caused by time wasting isn't it?
Most times but they do still do it for no reason whatsoever occasionally. RVN did it twice in one of my games the 1st time he just ran wide and shot. 2nd Time he actually crossed it and my winger nodded it in.
It could also be creative freedom causing the player to take matters into his own hands. I give "little" across the board and "rarely" for time-wasting and only see it when raising the latter.

Agreed, don't know why I didn't think of this when we had that convo in OT yesterday.
Maybe I should lower CF even more. Getting one on ones mainly through flick-ons from the target man was the main reason for changing to 2 upfront for FM07, but I think I'll adopt another approach as this is thwarting me.
