It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Help needed badly to restore an old dinosaur to his old glory days!

Alright boys,

Just to let you know that I did search for some answers before putting up this post.

Right, I've been a CM/FM fan since the great Amiga days where you could win everything playing a 2-1-3-4 formation. Through those early years, I've got most of the games in the CM/FM series that have been released and always enjoyed huge success.

That is until FM 06! In fact I got so worked up about not being able to dominate that I gave it away for a tenner! I then thought about not buying the FM 07 (I know, nuts!!!) but decided I had to get it and have had some success this time but only with certain sides like Arsenal, Valencia and with national sides.

I actually thought this was standard form before joining this forum a couple of weeks ago and finding that practically all of you on here dominate and some of you actually think the game is too easy! Excuse my french but WTF??? How the hell do you guys manage it???

I now feel like Sir Alez Ferguson must have felt a couple of years ago when after years of dominance, his side got overtaken and trophies have been few and far between in the last couple of years. What I want you guys to help me out with is getting back to my glory days like Ferguson has done this season.

As I said before I only really have success with sides like Arsenal, Valencia, Inter etc... and despite the fact it would be harder to start with a crap team and build them up, I have noticed that Man Utd never seem to do well in my game and have decided to attempt to restore their glory days.

Unfortunately, it's a case of easier said than done and I'm stuck in midtable in January with no indication of any kind of good form on the horizon.

I have the normal Utd side except for Hargreaves who I added to Utd with the editor and improved his CA and PA, and after reading good things about him on here, Guadardo.

Can someone who has had success with Utd help me out with tactics please! I need real detail if possible such as formations, team instructions and player instructions. I want the player instructions that will enable Saha and Rooney to score goals for fun, Giggs to make assists for fun, Ronaldo to make and score goals for fun, Carrick and Hargreaves to DOMINATE the midfield, and Ferdinand, Vidic, Neville and Evra to dominate the back.

Help an FM veteran get back to his glory days please!

Cheers!

Start playing CM 01/02, that will probably help.

I don't have time to post fully now I'm afraid, but for starters I'd suggest reading the stickies at the top of the page, and the "unoffical tactics bible."

There's a hell of a lot to take on board, but the game's changed immeasurably as you've clearly noticed.

Thanks for the advice but I like said, I've had most games including CM 01/02 and I dominated on that one probably the most!

I find FM 06 and 07 much more difficult than any other game in the whole FM/CM series.

Cheers for that Asmodeus, I'll check it out but would still appreciate some more advice if possible.

The best advice is in those threads really. They explain the sliders in a bit more detail. Once you do that, use basic team settings on and watch a couple of matches on ful match and try to isolate any problems, or look for weak areas. Once you get to grips with what the sliders do, you can start to move toward the style of play you want to implement within your side.

However, as a really loose guide I posted this in a thread the other day regarding Manchester United:

Quote:
Team Instructions:

Mentality: 14 (“Attacking”)
Creative Freedom: 4 (“Little”)
Passing: 15 (“Direct”)
Tempo: 15 (“Quick”)
Width: 15 (“Wide”)
Closing Down: 15 (“Often”)
Defensive Line: 14 (“Push up”)

Play offside: Ticked
Corners: Near post

Everything else left to default.

Player instructions (left to team or default unless specified):

Edwin VAN DER SAR
Default keeper settings, distribution set to “defender collect.”

Gary NEVILLE/ Patrice EVRA
Forward runs often, run with ball often (for Evra), try through balls mixed, cross ball mixed.

Rio FERDINAND/Nemanja VIDIC
Mentality 6 (“normal”), all instructions set to rarely, possibly through balls to “mixed for Ferdinand.” For attacking corners set Vidic to “attack near post.”

Cristiano RONALDO/Ryan GIGGS
Forward runs/run with ball often, through balls/cross ball mixed.

Michael Carrick
Mentality 6 (“normal”), forward runs/run with ball rarely, try through balls/cross ball mixed.

Paul Scholes
Forward runs often.

Wayne Rooney
Forward runs/run with ball/try through balls/cross ball mixed, tick “free role” box. Consider giving some creative freedom too.

Henrik Larsson
Forward runs/run with ball rarely, through balls/cross ball mixed. Maybe tick “hold up ball?”

I’d give the wingers forward arrows too. That’s basically what I’d do to try and emulate them anyway.
That might help you. It's based on my appraoch that's outlined here. That might help you get started; then you can take it to the next level by checking out the most comprehensive thread on here. This is another cracking read that will help you immeasurably.

Hope this helps- it's damn hard and work in progress in some areas (in my opinion), but it's more addictive than ever.
