Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default About the DM settings

In reality, DM is more concerned about covering. So they need good position attribute to keep them in position. So here the problem comes. When there is only one DM in the center, should he close down always to disturb opponent’s attack or just keep in his position to form the protection in front of the DC.

That's a good question, and different managers have different opinions.

I play a CMR->DMC, and i like him closing down alot. However, while my CML->AM doesn't really help too much, he might be more helpfull than a pure AM, and thus, it might not work wiht a proper DM.

I guess it depends how you want to play.

When I use a 4-1-3-2 formation with a DM, I normally put the DM on Max closing down and hard tackling to break down attacks. People like Makelele, Emerson, Vieira, etc excel in this role. When I use a flat 4-4-2, one of my CM is more defensive minded while the other can run up to attack. In this case, my defensive CM closes down as well but I don't employ him in max closing down. Kinda like Carrick and Hargreaves.

I prefer easy tackling on a DMC, so that he's just running about intercepting and blocking passes rather than getting stuck into the opposition. He should be closing down all the time. I wish there was an option to have him chase the ball, as he doesn't use the full width like I'd like.
