I am not. I played football manager 07 when it first came out and after a month i decided to give up as I couldnt get anything to work for me. I have now worked up the courage to play again and take my beloved Sheffield Wednesday up the leagues and win trophies.
I am currently in my first season 40 games in and still am having no luck what so ever to get my beloved team to do anything.
Im sat in 22nd in the league and not looking very healthy at all.
My current squad
I have only managed to bring in 4 players with the available budget i have.
- Matt Jansen
- Matt Lockwood
- Tore Andre Flo
- Neil Collins
The Current League Table
As you can see nothing looks like im going to be surving this season at all. What ever i play i dont seem to be able to stop the opposition from doing things better. It's as though I'm not able to score but can concede very easily.
The tactics i am using are Fuss's Minimal Fuss Version 4.
I have read everyones testimonies in his thread and i cant seem to agree with anyone on how good the tactics are as they dont seem to be helping me win games.
Team Instructions
As you can see i havent actually changed anything in the team instructions to suite my team as im not sure really how im supposed to change them to make my players perform.
I have tried to customize my own training schedules aswell for each different type of position but to no avail so i downloaded "matts training schedules" i believe there called. They seemed to do a little better but as im not winning games my players arent actually getting better or improving anywhere.
Someone please help as im very fastly losing patience with the game. Thanks for your time.
ignore hector u need to fit a tactic around ur players not make ur players fit a tactic check out the forums concerning tactics and training u will something usefull in there
Just as a thought, it looks like the tactic may be a bit too attacking for your lot - those long farrows make me suspect you're winding up with only the back four back there to defend. I'd be inclined to take a more conservative approach.
Think of it as a challenge to yourself: work out why you're conceding, and try to acheive a clean sheet. I've had success tactic-building by first fixing the defense until I'm getting scoreless draws and 1-0 games, then working on the offense.
Also, with your team losing like they are, everybody else will be coming out gunning for you: attacking. Slow tempo / short passing gives them time to recover when you get posession; for such a poorly performing side, a quicker counterattack will probably serve you much better, as you can hope to catch them out of position.
In addition to the bible threads, I'd recommend reading wwfan's tactic sets: TT&F RoO/RoT Tactic Sets In particluar, look at how he's thinking of matches - it isn't just "run the same tactic out every match", that hasn't worked since CM01/02. Its a lot more "The other team is attacking, so I want to soak it up and hit them on the quick counter.".. "The other team is defending, so I want to play a patient creative attack that gets more of my players involved."... "Uh-oh, I'm a goal ahead with ten minutes to go, and they're throwing the kitchen sink at me! Time to defend."
Firstly, don't use 'Fuss'as a tactic absolutely-change it for your specific players.
so, if a player has 10 for dribbling-don't leave him on dribbling often just because that's what the tactic says.
In the championship, 14 is probably good enough for often and 12-13 for mixed. Anything below would be best as rarely.
This will probably leave your tactic looking lopsided-don't worry about it.
Specific changes you could try;
a) take off man marking on the defenders
b) drop that defensive line to one above 'deep'
c) remove counter-attacking
d) take away forward runs for the full backs
e) you might try replicating the more defensive midfielders instructions onto the attacking one-giving you two defensively minded players in the middle
Above all-don't fret it. You have a good team of players and are only a point or two from safety.
p.s. just make sure that your 'target man' is playing in the right position and is listed in the target man list...
If your new to setting up tactics, tweaking stuff and feel frightened by looking at the threads shown by Asmodeus (which for me even, seems frightening to see so many threads lol)... then i suggest you start out with a tactic like Venom, by Buxom or Crazy Gra's Tatic (2)... These tactics should work quite well and once you become alittle more successful in your games, hopefully your appetite to tweaking and creating tactics will grow.. when that time comes, then proceed to read those heapful of theories.
hope you wont feel overly fustrated and try your best!
As you can see, if you need anymore help, just ask around here, the big boys like wwfan, Cleon or Asmodeus usually comes to save the day..
Is there anything i can do for setting up training regimes to help my players perform better? how do i know when to drop the intensity of the training aswell?

basically, it depends on your team and how you want it to play. every formation has its disadvantages and advantages. Personally, 442 is my favorite formation to build upon. Successful 442 tactics have been made, such as the two links i gave you above.
if your looking for other tactics, then i would suggest the link given by Amaroq... this includes a 442 tatic, 433 tactics, etc. made by wwfan (who's a FM guru) and co.
as for the training regime.. go to the venom link i gave you and there should be a training regime there for you to download. use that as a template. the basic rule is not to overload your players. i.e. the training should not be too Heavy. However, this depends if you use a different training regime during pre-seasons which some might advise a heavier than usual training regime.
anyways, training regimes are easily set up; they must be suited for your team, lets say if you want your team to be more physical, then you should base your training more on Aerobic or Strength training. Or lets say you want to increase the finishing and composure skill of your strikers; then you should put more emphasis on the Shooting training. etc. Well, if your really struggling for ideas, either download from Venom's link i gave you, or go to HERE for some templates if you want to set up your own training regime.
