In CM3 in England it was when your Team got to Division 2 that the status went to Pro, whereas in Scotland it never changed. Players' contracts had nothing to do with it.

I have no idea to be honest and never paid much attention to it as it's never really impacted on a game I've played, and its not a huge issue in my experience.

Well, I am in the beginning of my 1st season in Serie B in Italy, I have about 60 players on my squad, all backroom staff is on pro contracts. But the team is still semi-pro
