In 01/02 Spain I turned Cadiz into a pro squad when I was promoted to the top flight (didn't stay there long, I resigned before the ship sank), I assume it functions the same now. I've heard in Italy it's the same thing. In Germany you change as soon as you get promoted out of the Regionaliga. In Sweden, I've never been able to get a team change. But there may have been a part-time contract hiding someplace I didn't catch.

Basically what Shawn said. It seems to happen when you get to a certain point (e.g. year after promotion to the 3rd in England). As Iajafer said it never changes in Scotland, and I've never seen it change in Wales or Finland either.

Does semi-pro status actually prove disadvantageous compared to a pro status? At Modena I noticed little difference,perhaps a severe lack of funds (300K in Serie A) although that was on CM4.

When I got promoted to 3rd div with Woking we turned prof straight away.....so that just confuses things even more!!!

I've had it happen a couple of times in Scotland, once with Montrose, once with Stranraer, and both times I was never really sure how it happened. I do know that it had nothing to do with having all staff on full-time contracts, because I was at that point both times and still remained semi-pro. If pressed for a hypothesis here, I would say to has to do with the wages paid to each player. This is because both occasions that I finally noticed (after who knows how long) the status change, I had players making decent wages i.e. living wages for all but youths
