Default Old B'stards

playing 03-04 and currently 9 seasons in I've got a dilemma.

In a round about way I ended up at Carlisle, starting at Dltras in Indonesia via norhtwich, halesowen (twice in sucession), plymouth and then carlisle.

Now for the first time in my Lower leaguing life I find myself in the prem, and for the first time in 03-04 this far into a save.

Now the dilema part, its a question of age. I've always been a fan of a good youth system, and also tended to try and sign players under 30, knowing I'd get at leastcouple of seasons out of them. being llm and never having any money, cheep developing youth was my policy

The issue is now in season 11-12 it seems players are going like the energizer bunny, and playing top flight untill 39-40 currently in this save there is a EPL team looking to sign a very old TXTing poof from Spain to 'add quality to their squad'.

do I need to change my policy, is this something others have found, that players just keep going, and players retain their form for longer than in 01-02?

I do not think you should change your policy of bringing in ounger players. Youth is aklways the way forward as you are going to get a few more seasons out of them than some 35 year old, as you have said.

Although I do think experience is key as well, so it is a mixture of both. I would say 26+ players in real life have enough experience anyway.

I tend to follow a youth strategy as well to save cash but I am never that successful in CM 03/04 until I get some cash to splash. That said, I haven't signed many 30 plus players myself because of that inbuilt youth bias from years of youth searches in 01/02

Any 30+ players I have signed up have retired within 2 to 3 seasons. I cant afford decent 26 to 30 year olds so tend to sign 19 to 22 year olds and hope they develop into something, usually in vain. I signed a "gun" 17 year old GK for the start of my new season but he seemed to burn out after 5 league games so he is currently in the juniors.

I only ever sign old gits when I am looking for "experience" in the lower leagues. I avoid them if possible once in the top flight.

Oy, us old gits can still do things better than you pimply youths. Slower, (much slower) but definitely better. Experience over youth any day.

Being myself a bit of a child lover :o I tend to not sign any player over 22 yo...

But I'm always at selling clubs, so I don't know what would happen if I got to a club with a buying tradition.

What mkus said. And it seems top flight teams are getting really old after 10 seasons or so. But they too will have to look for youths, if your game goes on for a few more seasons.

I have noticed a tendancy for the top teams to be full of old players after 10 seasons have passed.
