...Flame me if you wish but I have a few queris that have arisen from re-reading the Guedlines:
1) Trials - It says you can over trials to uncontracted players if you have no scouts, is this a restricted practise if you do have scouts?
2) Player Search filters - Guideklines say you can filter for status "For Loan". Can you filter for players with their contracts to shortly expire? Also can you filter for certain attributes?
3) Scouts - If a scout says Player X is no better than current squad options or has no future in football...can you still offer them a contract? In other words, can you ignore your scouts opinion if you believe this player has a role to play for you?
You may say "Do what you feel is right" but i'm not sure what the answer to that is and i would like to gauage your personal opinions on each question.
Thanks in advance

A few questions... [Gareth - The Office/] Post #2
1) I wouldn't say so, I bring in people on trials so I can scout them and see how tey perform. I will do this if I had scouts as well, as a second opinion.
2) This is where it gets murky. I filter for loans/listed and on contract expiry, however I will not filter by attributes. I doubt a manager really has a list of players attributes and can filter them himself, where as he may be able to filter the players regarding loan status.
3) Of course you can ignore your scouts opinion if you want. I would say though 9 times out of 10 my scout gets it right. If I feel strongly enough though I will over rule him. Remember, you are the boss.
So then Beffrey, is this you turning over a new leaf?

1) Depends how you found those players. If a scout finds them then it's cool, if you find them any other way it can be looked upon as dodgy or okay depending on how "LLaMa" you are. Jiminy Cricket.
2) It's fine to filter for loans if you don't have scouts. It gets dodgier when you filter for other reasons, eg. Transfer listed, Expiring, etc. Filtering for attributes is an Everest-sized no-no with Yetis on. Jiminy Cricket also.
3) Your scouts are there to find players and tell them what they think of them. Can you imagine Sir Eck being told by anyone not to sign a player? I think not. Jiminy Cricket.
Jiminy Cricket says "...always let your conscience be your guide."
Damned astute, that Cricket.

A few questions... [Gareth - The Office/] Post #4
(1) I like to do this, as it gives my coaches a chance to express an opinion, and maybe even the chance to give the player a run out in a reserve game, both of which are preferable to just a scout's opinion.
(2) I would never search by attribute. For one, it's unrealistic. For two, attributes by no means tell the whole story about a player. For loans and for contract expirees are fine - in real life, if a players contract was coming up, he (or his agent) would be approaching other clubs, so you would become aware of these players.
(3)I don't see why not, although I'd like a decent reason for ignoring my scouts advice (eg I was looking for a goalscorer, Scouts say Player X is no better than what I've got, but I can see that Player X scored 30 goals last season at a similar level).
But the best advice is to do what you feel is right :p

IAny other way i was thinking you you just say...encountered them. Sya you looked at your next opponents transfers out screen and you say they had released a player you had no knowledge of.

I think allow myself to filter for contract expiring and listed players then as "dodgy" is
Right, thanks, i think thats all my questions answered.

A few questions... [Gareth - The Office/] Post #7
(1) Not being the strictest LLaMa ever bred, I will offer trials to any young players released by Big Clubs (in whatever country I happen to be managing in), and I'll find many of them through the 'Transfers' screen. I figure that while I'm unlikely to know which players East Bromfield Harriers got rid of last season, it wouldn't be too hard to find the respective info for, say, ManUre or even Coventry.
(2) If I need a player on loan, I will venture into the 'Player Search' screen, filter for 'Available for Loan', and see if anyone fits the bill. With a squad of 20, most of whom would have been picked last for football at school, I can justify it to myself at least. Attributes? No. I may be a LLaMa, but I accept I'll have to do some donkey work.
(3) Ignoring scouts is a tricky one.
On one occasion, all of my scouts looked at a player I was interested in, said "Dog meat" and went home. I thought otherwise (one-trick pony? Depends how good the trick is) and sure enough he bagged a hatful next season for me.
Of course, the other striker they all wet themselves over turned out pretty decent too.

A few questions... [Gareth - The Office/] Post #8
1. I only offer trials to players my scout has found that I'm not certain about, but think, maybe they'd help. I'm never without a scout or at least haven't been yet so...
2. Player search filters...I just don't use them. I did sometimes use them for loans, but lately I've stopped--that may just be laziness. I never loan more than 1 or 2 players in a season and they've usually been found by my scout first. That said, I'm looking to do some loan deals in the LLaMa "A" clan, but need to work out agreements with a certain manager . And I've got my eye on someone else depending on scout report I get after a news message I saw. But I'm waiting for that report should it ever come. I never filter by contract expiry and cleary, never by attributes.
3. Often if a scout says he has no future, I believe him, but there is the odd situation where I know I want backup in a situation or do feel this player will fit into the squad in a certain role. Then I'll sign him. It's my AssMan I never trust.
