I have filtered for people with expiring contracts, so I can scout them - only when I was so desperate for a decent player when I had no money for transfers

I don't see a problem filtering for expired/expiring contracts. This is information you'd have IRL as a manager. You still need to have them scouted and/or loaned before you go after them of course.
And of course, as the Scottish poof says, "Let your conscience be your guide." A game isn't worth feeling guilty over. |

IRL players whose contracts are expiring don't mind letting the press know, especially in the top divisions, so you may well have this information. I am not so sure about the lower leagues though.

1. I offer trials to any uncontracted players my scouts find or if I have used the player search to find an uncontracted player.
2. IRL you are advised of "loan listed", "transfer listed" and "contract expiries" so I think player search is OK for these filters but no others. Attributes are abig no no as in real life how would you be able to do this.
Once found using this list methos I then assign my scout/s to scout them and if uncontracted and the scout thinks they are OK then I trial them.
3. I usually listen to my scouts. I also trial all uncontracted signees regardless of what my scout says so I can get coaches opinions.

The only time I dont listen to my scout is when thy find a goalie. his stats will be 15 plus and all my scouts will say he's not worth signing and my ass man will tell me he's not worth signing. I sign him and he plays every game over the next few seasons.
I just find good goalies get missed by lots of scouts, or your coaching staff tell you to release a really good young keeper because you have 2/3 older ones. IMO you've got to scout as much as your money will let you.

1) Trials - Never ever used them. If I can't with the help of my scouts decide if they are good enough, a trial is not going to make an ounce of difference.
2) Player Search filters - What are they? Be a zealot and be totally dependent on your scouts for finding players to buy & loan. It makes the first couple of years damn hard until you build up a decent shortlist bank.
3) Scouts - Bunch of overated poofs, but they are the only poofs you have, so use them. Ignore them at your peril.

1) My coaches often have better scouting attributes than my scouts. Trialling is
2) Attribute filtering is :thdn: List/Loan is  contract expiry is :thdn::thup:
3) If I feel I disagree and and can trial, I will (see 1). However, I don't bother to look at a player normally unless the scout says that they are V.Good/Excellent (prospect).

1) Tbh I never really use trials and rely on my scouts. However bringing people in on trial is fine as long as you find these players legit.
2) Using filters to find players on loan and players who are listed is good, as long as you then scout before you try. For contracts I wouldn't do it but I suppose I can understand if you did. Attribute scouting is a big no no.
3) I don't always pay attention to my scouts. I find they pretty mcuh always say this guy is decent, I've heard he is good or could be a good addition to the squad.
