Ok, this is lame and silly, but maybe somebody will be inspired to try a team they might not have otherwise
------------
So, if you're like me, CM4 has left you a bit bewildered and you've gone back to CM 01/02.
But what team to play as? Project X is nice and all but I like to know just what I'm getting into before I start a game and usually find myself on rsssf.com looking at the real life standings when picking a team.
So, with the season just finished it seemed like a perfect opportunity to go in search of this year's Agrispor, the pathetic Turkish Division 2 team that finished the year with 8 points last season.
Before long I had put together the Wooden Spoon Honour Roll for 2003. In other words, the team that finished last in the lowest playable division for CM01/02.
Rather then post the full list, here are the 10 performances that stand out above all the rest.
Honorable Mention:
Deportivo Espanol (Argentina) - who finished one segment of the Argentine season with 6 points.
Kavala (Greece) - ended the year with 13 points, 15 behind second last. Might have made the top 10 but managed to score 20 goals during the year, clearly their offense was not inept enough to qualify.
Gnistan (Finland) - 12 points and 16 goals is no easy accomplishment.
The Top 10
10) Stade Beaucairois (France) - last place in the French National Division by almost 20 points and a goal difference of over -50 was just enough to get them into the top 10.
9) Borussia Neunkirchen (Germany) -
They finished the year with 15 points, last in the German South Regional division by 14, managed 3 wins and a goal difference of -52.
8) CD Lugo (Spain) - 2 wins, 11 points and 11 goals all year. Remarkably there was another team in the division, Ribadellesa, who may have even been worse but Lugo got Spain's coveted wooden spoon and thus they claim their deserved spot in the Top 10.
7) East Stirling (Scotland) - 2 wins, 13 points, and 105 goals against made this truly a season to remember. Their goal difference of -73 might have been the best in the world this year.
6) RE Dison – Verviers (Belgium) - Helped, or hindered, by the fact that they play a shorter schedule in Belgian lower leagues Verviers weren't able to crack the elusive 10 goal mark this year, falling just short with 9. They grabbed a whopping total of 5 points all year.
5) Puteolana (Italy) -

18.Puteolana 34 1 3 30 15-77 6

That about covers it
Although they scored more points then Viviers it's the fact that Puteolana played 10 more games to get only one more point that gives them the nod and a spot in the prestigious top five.
4) Silopli Cudispor (Turkey)
Ranking these teams was never going to be easy but I think Silopli's results speak for themselves. If you end the year with no points you're surely deserving of a spot in this list.
3) Hakkarispor (Turkey)
Remarkably there was a second team that finished the year with 0 points in Turkey, a truly incredible feat. Hakkarispor scored one less goal so they finish just ahead of Silopli.
2) Mettalurg Kronsoyark Russia
How do you finish ahead of a team that scored no points all year? Finish the year with -8 points
Mettalurg actually did get 16 points, but wound up being docked 24 points by the Russian FA due to some dodgy transfer dealings, ie they refused to pay for the players they bought. So not only are you taking over a crap team but they're also pathetic crooks \o/
And the winner is....
Santo Andre (Brazil)
It was tough to give them the nod seeing as they actually scored a point during Division Three but it was the fact they scored no goals at all which gave them the title. Due to their incredible levels of offensive ineptitude and proving that even a blind squirrel can't always find a nut Santo Andre of Brazil's Division 3 are the winner of the 2003 Worldwide Wooden Spoon.
*stats are only as accurate as rsssf.com would allow.
Great Post.
Even though PAS Giannina is in the highest greek league and thus do not qualify for the wooden spoon, I think they deserve an honorable mention for having -65 points after 29 rounds
According to rsssf, they were deducted 3 points per round (-87 after 29 rounds) for having debts to former players of about 900,000 Euro. Sucks if you have to win every game to end the season with 0 points
