It is possible to sign world cup players as a conference side, not very good ones, but ahhh the merchanidising revenue can pay for half ur squad!

If I was a footballer lucky enough to live in Scotland it'd take a hell of a lot to sell a club in another country to me, especially England :p

Just saying if I was lucky enough to be living in Scotland and at a football club there (as a run of the mill typical LLM type footballer) I'd take a great deal of persuading to move abroad to another club, whatever the nationality of their manager!

So the better wages, more exposure on television and the chance to play with better players in a better league would all be outweighed by the fact that you would be living in Scotland.

I like Scotland but I don't think I'd go that far.

Well, it's difficult to say since I'm not a footballer, but I always put loyalty far above ambition so I'd generally stay with a club if they still want me rather than jumping ship at the first sign of a better offer! Esp. since we're talking LLM type footballers here - moving abroad and everything that comes with it would be rather more of an upheaval than for a top star.

Mebee you're right though - if I was a footballer I'd put greed ahead of wanting to live in my favourite country or loyalty to the club I was at or whatever. I guess I could retire back there after my short footballing career

As for "especially England", if I had moved up to Scotland in the first place and if I was then to move to a club abroad I'd go for slightly more exotic than England :p

Agree with that, Gandalf's-sword-bloke. I don't think many players move abroad just for the GBP150 pay packet they'll be getting, often there may be an ulterior motive or other reason (studied there, etc).

The flaw in that argument is that moving to England is usually far more "do-able" for a part-time player than the move abroad, which is why this is a common sort of move and SYB works, IMHO.

Indeed - I agree completely in football terms - I'm just the kind of person who would quite happily spend a career playing for a Scottish 3rd Division club so long as it paid the wages, esp. if it was part time anyway - England's alright, but given the choice I'd go and live in Scotland forever
