I was just wondering if anyone else has taken over one of the teams that comes up to the Conference after the 1st season (e.g AFC Wimbledon, Bradford PA, Aldershot)

It's actually pretty cool, starting off with no contracted players. It really feels like YOUR team, as you've signed all of the players...

How they perform though remains to be seen (I've only just started with AFCW after getting sacked! )

Anyone else found it pleasurable/boring?

check Nobby's Billericay thread, also I think Rek managed AFC Wimbledon once. I tried Canvey but couldn't get anywhere, ended up bottom and sacked

Everyone and his dog has taken over such a Club, bigfella. Many start a game, take a holiday for one to several seasons, and take over one of the newly promoted Clubs.

I was mainly wondering how various people got on, though?

This Thread here chronicles my career with several Clubs including Harrogate Town, Ashton United and Ford United, all of whom are non-League at the start.

I was particularly proud to win the World Club Championship with Purfleet

Yeah, I've made a career out of it...

Billericay happened to have an OK squad when I took over. When I went to Bedford, they had a handful of players but I only stayed there for 5 months before going back to Billericay. When I took over at Newport County they had a squad full of dross. I've signed 4 players up to Boxing Day!

I'm still waiting for Canvey Island to get promoted, I'll apply without hesitation. Played against them in the FA Trophy once and liked their name so I checked out their website to find out about their impressive achievements as a non-league team. Respect.

a2000. Don't kid yourself. Look upon it as an artist with a clean canvas. You have the chance to build a Team from scratch.

Now imagine getting a canvas that's been started by a painter and decorator, and you're being told to finish it and sell it as your own.

Taking over a freshly promoted, playerless Club is the same as the fresh canvas. You start by appropriating the players you want yourself.

Taking over Leigh RMI is like taking over the other guy's painting. You're trying to brush over crap, but the crap's always there.

It's much easier with the newly promoted Club than it is taking over a Club brimming with deadwood.

Trust me.

Merkinstein. I foolishly deleted that game to start with CM4, and I've never regretted anything more, CM-wise, in my life.

Leigh RMI was the prime example in 01/02. They have a roster that's almost full, and full of crap

I love them

Canvey will get promoted at some point, given they are in the Ryman Premier. When is up to the game.
In my Billericay career game, they've settled down in Division 3 after a brief spell in the Second.
