I think I've been noticing an improvement in the 2D match AI
As my Cheltenham team have risen through the divisions, played together more and I have improved the standard of players in some places, I am noticing that they seem to be playing in a manner that is more like the way I want them to.
Their movement is slicker, they slice open the defence with astute passing and generally put on a good show. In the lower reaches, they tended to bludgeon their way to goal more, using the same tactics. The same applies to the opposition, to some degree..
So to my questions for discussion: Is the AI that good? Does the standard of play noticably improve as you rise through the league? Or am I imagining it in an Amstel induced haze?
I think you might have a point. I hadn't really noticed until I'd gone from a loooooong career game, several seasons of which were spent in the higher echelons, to my new game in France.
After the relatively slick passing and decisive finishing of my old team (please note - this was after a LONG time!), watching the mighty Angouleme put every pass astray, miss the most simple chances and generally play like they were recovering from brain surgery was quite a come down. A very stark contrast.
It must be a gradual thing, 'cos I didn't notice it too much on the way up. Then again, the drinking means that I don't notice much at all.
Jcb, I concur. There is a noticeable difference in the way that the 2D engine protrays higler level play. In my current game which I am up to 2014. In that time I have gone from the Czech 2nd division to the EPL. The quality of play is so superior now to what I saw my Bohemians Prague team play, it is incredible.
There are times I watch my squad and simply say wow when I see the ball movement and coordination. Give and go passes on the break, switching off to the lee side on attack, all the things that you would expect to see from a class side.
With my Czech team the only time I went wow is when one of my lunks would hit the post and the ball bounced in rather than out.
