Is it just me or have other people found that they concede alot of goals whilst you have a player off recieving treatment ? Now this isn't a big whinge that's going to claim the game is "unplayable" just a small gripe.
It's not just scoring but scoring from the area where the player off injured should be. I've just lost a match from this where i was 1-0 up at the league leaders York and my LM goes off injured.
Lo and behold a cross from their right finds my LB overloaded at the far post and one of the two attackers scores. 1-1.
Next up my lone striker is off recieving treatment, not to worry i thought i can hold out for a few mins whilst he gets patched up. No for some bizarre reason my RB opts to loosely cover the position and thus they attack down their left hand side and the cross from where my RB should be results in a goal. 2-1.
Now as far as i was aware players don't bother covering from injured team mates, but it appears on the odd occasion they do and it's completely random by the looks of things.
Now i can't imagine some sort of feature allowing you to tell a player to cover would be too hard to implement. Here's a couple of ideas....
1) Have an option on the player instruction screen allowing you to select a player to cover a position when the man goes off for treatment. Ie. On my tactics screen say i was playing 4-4-2 and my RM gets injured, i'd then select from a drop down menu (like corners, free kicks etc) one of my strikers to fill in.
2) When a player goes off injured have the tactics screen come up instantly much like with game ending injuries and red cards. Perhaps you could then have the small position pitch in a different format where by you drag a player into the injured player's position and it automatically stays there until the return of injured team mate. Perhaps it could have a drop down menu next to 'instructions' and 'tactic' where you can either select say "position pitch" or "positional cover pitch".
Then once you've dragged a player into the right position to cover and clicked confirm have it work immediately not like a sub where you have to wait 3-5 match minutes for it to take place but straight away as if you as the manager had just barked it out at the player you wish to cover.
Regardless of whether or not the opposition score due to the hole in the formation, a gap still exists which shouldn't. But I'm guessing from the lack of response in this thread, conceding a goal because of the gap doesn't happen often enough for people to notice or highlight it as an issue.
I'm pretty much a micro-manager, but even that's a bit much for me. I'd rather the game automatically back-fill:
With 10 or more minutes remaining, or a draw or lead in the final ten minutes, drop players back as necessary until the gap is up front, ideally at FL or FR (if the formation includes one), and if not, at SC:

SC->FR->AMR->MR->WBR->DR->DCSC -> AMC->MC-> DMSC->FL->AML->ML->WBL->DL->DC

With 10 or fewer minutes remaining and a deficit, its a little tougher - I might rather have one DC and eight "forward" players than two DC's and one fewer striker .. but it would suck to concede a second goal that makes the comeback impossible.
