I am Man U in the forth season and its january so i search for players whos contracts only had 6 months left. When i found a player i wanted i decided i was going to try and sign him but for some reason you cannot arrange to sign english players on free transfers when you are an english team. Is this a bug or a real life rule??

Real life rule nowadays. You have to wait til about 4-6 weeks before their contract expires to "Approach to Sign".

It's a real life rule. You can (try to) sign them one month before expiration of their contract.
