my firt season at liverpool was a struggle but ended stronly.
second season i was doing better.
3rd season and i am doing really well.
babels coming on strong, moutinho's scoring some long range efforts although not in the league and behrami is chipping in with a few as well.
torres and kuyt are working well together.

you need to build the team, learn from your mistakes, build player confidence and get them playing well as a team.

I had a tactic that worked well sometimes, but struggled on others. The answer was small tweaks.

I set my team to a quick tempo and solved the "loitering on the ball" problem. Short passing on dry days is also a neat idea.

If the opposition has more than 3 chances in the first 10 mins I know I am about to go behind, so tweak the passing accordingly. If I'm set to short, I change it to direct; if tempo is set to slow, I change it to quick or normal.

Little tweaks throughout the game break up the opposition's rhythm when they are having a spell of good pressure. On the other hand, tweaking too much too often WILL result in defeat.

Example of a small tweak: I've recently started closing down and tackling hard the opposition's central midfielders / DMCs (esprially Fabregas and the like; they can't cope with it!). Off the back of a dismall December 2010 I'm in March 2011 and defeated only twice in that time.

Try these;

set your whole team to pressing whole pitch except your central defenders, just set them to own area.

make sure your full backs dont run forward often but mixed (especially when your away)

play 4.3.3 with the AMR and AML making runs into box. Use a defensive midfielder, short passing and counter attack when away. Give your most creative midfielder some creative freedom

or play 4.4.1.1 usefull away with counter atack. Make sure the AM is making mixed forward runs and give plenty of creative freedom (oh and make him long shots rarely - cant stress that enough)

Have been working for me - i mix these two formations up with the 4-4-2 during a season, usually works

Sometimes it just takes a game or tow untill you figure out your tactics which reflect waht sort of players you buy

Speaking of the default tactics, anybody else notice that 442 normal and 442 defensive are precisely the same?

Also if your playing a team with a super AM you can use that defensive midfielder to mark him tightly with the 4-3-3 formation. marked messi out of a game once in mine
