is there any way to retrieve the game or is it a lost cause?

its usually pretty much a lost cause. when you do start a new game though, go into the preferences, and change the saved game type to a 3- or 5- file rolling auto save, at least this means if your game dies, you can load up a slightly earlier version of it and try again. i have mine set to save every week (takes a lot less time in the long run) and on a 3 file rolling autosave!

cheers,annoying thing is i normally have a double save(save it twice as save game 1+2) but fpr some reason i didnt this time around
