Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Target Man or Playmaker in a 4-4-2

I play a basic 4-4-2 formation and have for 4 years achieved moderate success with Middlesbrough using a target man.

I have however found myself struggling against most of the big sides, so I have decided to slow down the tempo with which I play, in order to try and maintain possession.

If I do this, would I be better off utilising a playmaker (I have Pisculichi) or sticking with a target man (Yakubu).

Personally I am ering towards trying a playmaker.

Any ideas???

Why can't you have both? or try and find which way suits you best instead of asking someone who has no clue about your system, settings etc. So they are not in a place to advise

im guessing your using a big guy as your target man...if so use target man against smaller/low jumping defenders...also, mix distribution from head to feet...you could try the target man challenging against opposing full backs...i personally dont use a target man and use big guy, little guy tactics with various lengths of mixed passing and hope for a few to get through...use a playmaker at home (seems to get closed down alot away)...common belief on the forum states using your dmc or a mc dropping back as a playmaker. too far forward and the opposition defence will cut him out too often...this said, using any tactics on fm07 will need to be closely observed and tweeked as the opposition susses them out

oops...sorry didnt see yakubu as your target man...may be best to try more direct passing and use his pace...your other fc could be used to drop deeper and try to play him through

Any other fast striker as target man would be great but ive always found it difficult with yakubu as target man because his preferred move is to move to the left wing where if you play him through he never reaches the goal andis at an awkward angle. class striker, moved defenders aorund all over the place but as a target man, i never had much success
