Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Target Man. A few questions...

I've read its worth having a target man upfront, is that true?

If so what settings are needed to fully benefit from this?

click on the find button and search this forum theres tons of advice on what would make a good target man and best to use him.

If that doesn't help just use common sense. big strong, good in the air etc

If you have a tall target man, it's useful to have a try trought balls on, high mentality, not sure about creative freedom.

The rest is up to you, if he has long shots excellent or dribbling

You should also give him hold up ball

your target man has good pace/accelaration?
set the target man supply on RUN ONTO BALL

your target man has good jumping/heading/he's a tower like crouch?
set the target man supply on TO HEAD

that's the basic..

Would further elaborate on here. If your target man is a speedy striker, run onto ball would do well here and it would be good to provide him with through passes so that he can use his speed to deadly effect. If your target man is a big guy, like Carew, Crouch, Beattie, etc, supplying the target man with balls onto head would do good as well since he can win and score from headers. If your target man is strong and you wanna reolve your play around him, you can play long balls to him and use him to Hold Up Ball (HUB) while bringing others into play.

Hope this helped.

To elaborate a little on what ubos said: "to feet" is good if you have a strong target man up front on his own, whereas I find "to head" very effective when your target man has a quick striker/wingers to flick the ball onto.
