Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Im having a real problem where my scout tells me that:

"they will look to use ariel power of striker A,we should look to cut off supply to him"

I've tried closind down always/weaker foot or left.Nothing seems to work against theses teams and im bombarded by crosses.

Any help would be appreciated!

the arial power of striker X comes from the midfield behind him

mark or close those mc/wingers down
force them onto weaker foot

they should send many fewer balls in his direction

least its how it seems to be working for me with notts

i just experimented with 1 match played repeatedly

same formation/players each game
but diff tactics
diff OI's
no OI's
diff Teamtalk options

just to see what sort of difference each setting made

thanks TheRealMagpies.

I might just experiment with the same match and c the difference , but they are so many factors. I normally use closing down, as a fast player may outrun the tight marking.

You could also petition the FM programmers for a patch which gives you an option to "Chop players legs off: now let's see who has the aerial power"

Should this fail however, assign your tallest, strongest player to man mark him and this would also help you out. If you don't have one, you need one. Look for high strength, marking and make sure he is tall (at least 6ft or 180cm)

Yeah TheRealMagpies idea is what I would do - if they don't get the ball to him it doesn't matter what he's good at.

Also, if he's good in the air but not very quick (quite a lot of target men outside of really big sides), playing high up the pitch will limit his effectiveness.

He will still obviously be able to win the headers, but he will be winning them mostly in less dangerous places than inside the box.

heh... cant edit my own posts

my settings are
man marking system (dont like zonal in 2nd div as players not really up to coping with it)

Defenders Tight Marking YES, Closing Down None
Midfield Tight Marking No, Closing Down Mixed
Forwards Tight Marking No, Closing Down Always

Any PLayers mentioned in scout report/prematch media get OI's based on where they play
Forwards - Tackling Hard, weaker foot, tightmarking, No closing down
Midfield - Tackling Medium, weaker foot, medium marking/closing down

having your forwards/wingers with closingdown Always set can cause defensive errors, 2 forced homegoals is always funny to see.

hope this helps a little more, and if the "Guru's" don't agree i would really appreciate thier input on my mistakes
