Evening all

Christ, when I tool the mighty Yeovil to the Champions League Final in 06 and won the world cup with England I thought I could play this game. Along comes 07 and I'm tearing my bloody hair out and making myself late for work most mornings, and once more again after tonight!

I play as West Brom, managed to finsih runners up in season one, stayed up with 2 games to spare in the Prem and now, 11 games into season 3 I'm in for another struggle, just failed to beat 10 man Reading at home and drew 0-0 with a poor, poor charlton side and frankly should have lost. Realistic you might say and I'd agree to a point but I'm just making NO progress tactically despite signing better players, Papa Diop, Celsinho, Dogaberto etc

I've looked at a lot of threads and will continue too but can I ask the ones lucky enough to have cracked this, lets say playing a 4-4-2 at home arrows on the wide men and the CM who is attacking, the defensive midfielder has his arrow back to the "hole"

Width? How wide is good? Wingers seem too isolated to me

Is it imperative to have the 2 points difference on the sliders between positions? I tend to play Celsinho (CM) at att 18 and short passing, generally works when he gets on the ball!

Diop playing the CM (def) role is normally on MEntality 8-10 max would this normally be a problem, would Celsinho be too far away

Defenders, Zonal or Man? Tight or not? I've tried all sorts and they still defend like Under 7's on a bad day! Despite being internationals for their country!

Should you get your fullbacks to run forward and give them some creativity or is the general rule, they are to defend so slide down the creativity and mentality?

In terms of Mentality I normall line up with the following

How about closing down? I've got a midfielder like Diop who tackles for fun in real life yet on my game watches the opposition play in front of him and never puts a foot in. His closing down as the DM is around 16, creativity 7 short passing so why stand and watch them, I've tried zonal and man, tight and no tight marking it seems to make little difference!

Right I'll leave it there, could ask around another 15 questions such is the confusion I'm finding with FM07. Any help appreciated I'd rather not "pinch" a tactic from sombeody else I'm determined to tweak mine successfuly just getting bloody nowehere!

Too much difference between mentalities. The 06 approach of heavily split mentalities tied together with a high defensive line doesn't work any more. I suggest reading this or this for more in-depth theoretical discussion. Neither thread posts tactics. They offer theories about tactic designing in FM07 which will give you a lot of food for thought. Most of your questions will be answered somewhere on route.
