Have been playing the game for a number of years, and had really hoped that it had come further than this. As several people have pointed out, when your team is 1 up, the AI always changes to 4-2-4, and almost every time with a goal as a result.
This is not only irritating, but simply not even close to being realistic. So with the chance of having this thread closed immediately, my question is - how do you counter it?
Have seen some attempts, but sometimes you can simply not stop and change the tactic fast enough.
Very, I mean VERY unrealistic, even AI relegation battlers often switch to this tactic when they trail. I think nobody can seriously agree with this side of the game. Sometimes I manage to avoid the late goal, sometimes not, but this ticks me off. You don`t see Barcelona or Real Madrid playing ultradefensive at home the last 15 minutes because Gimnastic or whatever shity team attack them with 4 strikers.
To counter this you focusing your passing down the flanks and click counter attacking. I usually up the time wasting as well. By doing that I seem to get the results that I am looking for.
Very good point in the first post. Very unlikely to happen in real life.
What annoys me most about this is, weaker opposition always cause havoc against me with this, even when I do try to counter it. So logically, if I need a goal, I'll use 4-2-4, as it works so well for the AI. But of course, even with better players, nothing at all happens on the match engine.
Ill tell u how to deal with it as im in a good mood. The AI usually do adoptit this tactic with say 15/10 mins togo its one of there desperation tactics if u watch how it work its all long balls usually to the wing players. To counter this tell ur full backs not to do any forward runs and tell them to tight mark there man.that will stop most of the AI longball tactics,i also up the time wasting ,to be honest i usually get another goal when the AI attempt this tactic B coz they throw everyone forward its so eazy to counter attack,u dont have to tick it eaither if ur players are set up right theyll counter attack all on there own .
1: If a goal or two down, a team will try to get back into a match with about 20 mins left as they have nothing to lose
2: If they go three goals down they are likely to shut up shop to prevent embarassment.
3: If they do score, their players will get a confidence boost making them more likely to socre again whereas your players, especially if they have low morale, may get panicky.
I don't see anything fundamentally wrong with this scenario. I rarely see any side playing flat-out attacking football in real life for 90 mins, with most content to sit on a 2-0 lead and play out a more controlled, possession game, scoring if oppotunities present themself but not really pushing for goals. Likewise, with nothing to lose sides will try to get back into a match, even against good teams. However, if your tactics are solid it won't happen and you are likely to score on the break. Simply design an attacking and a holding tactic and switch between them once you have the two goal lead.
Geezuz, play down flank, no arrows on MR and ML, deep defensive line, no forward runs on full-backs, full-backs mentality as defensive as central defenders and please please please tick counter attack ON (away or home). If you say this does not help, just don't tell me it did not improve, it must unless you are already playing like this.
Try to make use as much time in the hole a 4-2-4 leaves which is down the flanks.
