i use 4-3-3 when they do that. i also:set mentallity to normal, do counter attacks, play wider and play 2 of my strickers really wide to strecht their defence. and it works ussually.and it would be a good idea to have a sweeper and 2 defenders in front like in a 5-3-2sweeper formation but you should keep your full backs in position.

Yeah, wide strikers or AMR/Ls tear the opposition a new one. Setting a pacey striker as target man with supply set to "run onto ball" can be devastating too.

Anybody know how to emulate AI gung-hoo style? Because it`s very effective, and when I try something similar, nothing happens. I mean, when the AI switchs to this style, they have ALWAYS three or four chances in the last ten minutes, but not a single one when I try to play this way. I turn to a 4-2-4 all out attack, direct, quick and wide, also low time wasting, but nothing seems to be as effective as the AI tactic.

| Yeah, seconding this. It would be nice to see how the tactic is set up, just to get a better picture of what makes it tick (and to adapt it for my own team ). The same goes for the 3-3-2-1-1 that the AI deploys.

This is not only irritating, but simply not even close to being realistic. So with the chance of having this thread closed immediately, my question is - how do you counter it?
Have seen some attempts, but sometimes you can simply not stop and change the tactic fast enough.
| i know what you mean, had the same problem at start...just make in-game changes to counter the problem, for example i like playing with my fullbacks bombing foward often,i do come up against the 4-2-4 mainly when there's a goal difference between you and the AI,i restrict my fullbacks from going foward,man-mark the front four and close down their midfield of two with hard tackling,i always end up scoring more goals instead of them pegging back...this is how i usually deal with this tactic and works like a charm for me

Look lets be honest. This does happen in rl just nowhere near as regularly.Quite simply this is a coding problem that SI have overlooked..either intentionally or accidently.Reguardless this issue has ruined this version of the game. After years of playing this fantastic game and loving everysecond of it, i sit there lookin at the screen after my Man U lads have lead 3-0 at half time against West Brom. Second half starts similar tactics maybe bit more time on the ball. They employ a 4-2-4 and proceed to tear my team apart. Netting chances from 30+ yards.whilst my players cant even do the basics correctly.I will continue to play this game because i love it..but seriously having an inferior team play like the justice league is simply not realistic. And the goaly issue is well tied into this.

Or even my pet hate;
when the opposition are 2-1 or 3-1 ahead with 15 minutes to go, they still go 4-2-4. Is this reasonable? Does any human player do it?

| I understand what you are saying kinda. I dont think in my opinion 4-2-4 is something we see every team in the premiership doin week in week out when it goes behind. Most of the Premiership sides would aim for damage limitation. Hell we are used to Jose mourhino last season chucking Roberth Huth or John Terry up front rather than using bringing on forwars/winger.
Personally I think 4-2-4 is just a lazy and somewhat failed attempt to bring balance to the game. They wanted to make it harder so they deicided to make the ai do this 4-2-4 every game and grab late goals which is a certain to happen if you dont change things. Results like 3-3 or 4-3, 4-4 happen with alarming regularity, far to regular to be realistic.

my set-up to counter the 4-2-4 has worked everytime for me so ill tell you about it now:
i play 4-5-1 like this
------fc------
ml-mc-mc-mc-mr
dl--dc--dc--dr
the ML/R are short farrowd with mixed forawrd runs, everyone else is on no forward runs, exept for the striker and middle mc who are on mixed.
my mentality is 1 below the little middle line
my passing is the first notch of direct
my tempo is the first notch of quick
my width is dead centre
my D-line is the same as mentailty
passing focus is down flanks
and if i have a quick striker up-front he is set as target man with supply run onto ball.
with this set-up i haven't conceded against the 4-2-4 and i score quite frequntly on the break, even with counter-attack off

| While I agree that purely switching to a 4-2-4 when behind is a tad lazy and predictable; I have to say that you don't need to change tactics at all to deal with it. There are systems that can deal with the majority of situations, this included. Comebacks never happen to some of us, it's just figuring out to deal with it.
