It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Conceding late goal?

Can any1 sort me out with a proven tactic that will stop my team from conceding late goals to either make my team lose or draw a game they were on top of.?

When you're winning, the opposition will tend to go all out to attack because they have nothing else to lose. You may get to face the 4-2-4 or 3-3-2-2 formations as the AI becomes more desperate to score. That is why you have to tweak your tactic at around the 60th to 70th min. Change time wasting to max, slow down your tempo, bring on fresh pacey players to inject life and make things more difficult for your opponents and allow your team to play more defensively while ticking counter attack on. If you do all of the above, it is likely that you can stop the AI from scoring late goals, while even scoring from counter attacks yourself.

Something I've found helps is if you've used all your subs with about 10 minutes left and you are one goal up is move your slower striker (if you are using two) back into an AM position. This gives you extra defensive cover but he can also be used to launch the ball in a counter attack

It is a big mistake to change time wasting to max that early in the game as it can cause major problems. I have noticed players dwelling on the ball in bad positions.

I would only change time wasting to max around the 88/89 minute.

During the game one of the tips that comes up does actually mention high time wasting too early in games can cause major problems.

I tend to drop my team mentality and move my time wasting up as the game progresses. If i'm winning at half time i put my mentality down a a notch or two and my time wasting up to normal.

When it gets to 60-70 mins and the oppostition are putting pressure on me and creating a lot chances then i drop the mentality more and the time wasting up slightly, sometimes i'll take off a striker and put another defensive midfielder on and/or change to a different style of passing/or change the tempo.

When the game gets to about 80mins i put my time wasting up to max and in the last few minutes i sometimes make a couple of subs (at different times) to try and draw the game out. Although i never sub centre backs if they are playing well cos i don't want to break up the defense.

Also if i'm at home i'll drop my width one notch to play a slightly narrower formation.

Ya, i dont think i agree with high time wasting that early, and i never set time wasting to 20, as ive actually seen my forward on a clear break on the keeper, veer off and run to the corner. Wouldnt bother me so much if he was sh***, but with 19 finishing he better not waste that opportunity. So 19 TW is ok with me.

Anyways i have a "shut down" tactic that i employ no earlier than the 80th min which basically is extrememely defensive. I sub a striker for a DM and play a 4141, with slow tempo, narrow, short passing (cept CB's, and FBs are mixed). I was worried that with slow tempo that too much pressure would lead to a turnover, but this doesnt seem to be the case. I have a very skilled squad with very high passing attributes so it works for me. pass down flanks. All individual mentalities are defensive except my forward who is around 11. Set forward to target man, and supply "run onto ball" (make sure you have a pacey striker), and forward runs often and run with ball often. All other players, no forward runs, no through balls, crossing deep except for wingers, and never run with ball. What am i forgeting...Counter obviously. deep defensive line.

Anyways, it seems to work a treat, and i know its working perfectly when once i set the tactic, their are no more highlights to show for the remainder of the game (play on extended). If i have an extra sub to use, ill use one around the 90th min to waste a bit of time.

When the ai wants to score and plays 4-2-4 most of the time they will score. With that in mind you can also play an ultra attacking formation to try and make sure you score aswell.

I am having big problems. Every time I am winning a game the opposition comes back. Even if I am dominating the game the opposition manages to come back and score. It happens every game I go ahead first. In a game against Bolton I was winning 3-0 and completely dominating and it should have been more. Since I was dominating I kept my tactic the same as it had been to try and maybe increase my lead because all my wins are usually only by 1 goal and i needed better goal difference. All of a sudden they score 3 goals in the last 10 minutes to equalize. This happens every game when I am leading even if i play defensive with time wasting they still score.

I hate to say it but either your defenders are just rubbish or you need to improve your tactics - big style.

Also set defender's passing to 'clear lines' (the next step up after 'long') so that the ball is cleared to safety ASAP. Also advoids the possibility of a dodgy backpass costing you a goal.
