It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Greetings to All.

Please read this thread.

I have been a loyal servant to the Football manager series for a while now, and like many of you Im sure I am constantly frustrated by the tactical aspect of the game this year and I feel its time to take action.

Many of us whether Casual or Hardcore FM Gamers still look for the of the past '' Killer Tactic'', well Ive got news for you in case you didn't know, it is History and has become extinct. The key to becoming Tactically estute is more related to team and player instructions than formations, knowing when to tweak the right thing at different times in the game. The slightest adjustment could be the difference between champions and runners up.

The time has come fellow gamers to take charge, come together for a 'Tactical Tweaking Bible'. This is a thread open to the views of all on what tweaking to do and when.

So I pose this challenge to all you so-called and confessed Tactical Genius the time has come to put together an unofficial guide to Tactical Tweaking.

All opinions are welcome.

The least you could of done was open up with findings that you yourself has found within the game.

There are plenty of threads about and an unofficial tactics bible at the top of the page. Read that and get inspired..

Hi 990099, I am not getting at you in any way here but.....

I for one beleive FM07 has become way to much geared towards tactic 'Tweaking'. I now managers play different ways against different teams IRL but they are not changing things every five minutes.

There are so many 7,8,9,10 page plus threads about different theories ,set ups , and approaches all which i have read and admire the people who take time to explain there theories.

But what has the game come too when so many casual players like me (GF ,kids, )etc despite reading all the threads still struggle.

I do not want a super tactic, I just wanna enjoy what time I get to play the game I love

I am in no way getting at you and I now many serious FM players will love a thread like this. But I still think at the end of the day it will still amount to tweak tweak tweak.

I just hope in the next installment of FM more time is spent on the scouting and media aspect because both are very poor. Instead of being so obsesed with people actually enjoying it.

1. Do you need to be a tactical tweaking genius to play this game? Definitely not If you understand the game, then you can use 1 tactic, for as many seasons as you want. My Merthyr Tydfil side used the same tactic for 7 seasons, fair enough I did make minor changes to the tactic once I hit the premiership, but that was to account for my improved passing.

2. There is a bible up top, there is a tactical tweaking thread as well, tonnes of information. If you've read it and still have problems, then look into the threads of Cleon, Buxton and some of the others. They give detailed information on their tactics, my thread had a tactical template, where I took a bog basic 442, and showed how you could use it to make a 433, 4132, even a Brazilian-styled 424.

There is no need to tweak, tweak, tweak. If you are doing that now then there is fundamentally something wrong with your tactic. The only tweaks you need are to increase width or to adjust tempo. That's it. If you're doing stuff like adding FWR. TTB or to adjust CF or the DL. then your tactic is set up wrongly. I can't remember the last time I watched a match on extended highlights. Right now I'm just playing it off commentary.

That's the one thing I hated about the older versions... you never really knew what was going on.

"Lewis picks up on the loose ball"

uh.. where?

Thing is with commentary on, sometime you get better hints on gameplay action then just watching the ingame highlights

I agree, in principle, though sometimes a significant and decisive tweak to your tactic can inject something extra into your game and can perhaps involve some of those non-tactical aspects to the game.

For my Valencia team, I bought Aimar, as a sort of romantic return. I'm usually thrifty and boring with transfers and my team is very well organized and regimented. But because of the level of expectations (in the game and for me), I had to give Aimar the spotlight. I put him as my attacking CM, but upped the CF, lowered the CD, and worked my players around making more passes and space for him.

What happened?

The prodigal son got overrun, kicked, and bullied by Deportivo's industrious midfield. At half time I told him I had faith in his ability, and reverted back to my usual tactic for the rest of the squad, but only kept the increased CF on Aimar. If anything, let's see how tough he is, and if anything, their DM has already been booked. Aimar continued to be bullied, but he also delivered a beautiful through ball to set up the first goal, scored from a free kick, then went on an amazing run only to just miss.

Now I don't think I'll go the rout of keeping him the central focus of my team. He may have produced a good half of football but the equilibrium of the team had been disrupted or at least changed drastically, and that runs the risk of my reliable tactic being altered too much.

One big mistake many players seem to make is neglect the value of stability, in terms of making changes when necessary, and making those changes count.
