Bought him in my game for 20 mil from Arsenal. He was already 22 by then so I thought that he had already reached his full potential and wont improve any further. Then suddenly, 2 years later, my team returns from its usual summer break for the new season. I glance over a few players including Vela and low and behold he has improved in almost every technical stat, half of mental stats and one physical stat. This was a huge surprise to me. Has anyone seen a growth of this magnitude happen to any player after the age of 23?

Yes, many times. Many times you can notice drastic improvements in a player until he reaches 24. Even after that they improve but not as much as before that age.

I find that many times especially around that age they seem to develop the best. Often I wanted to drop a 20 year old, who did not seem to develop as well as I thought when I bought him aged 16-18, but with nobody wanting him or me using him to promote a feeder team of mine, they explode and make it into the first team.

Yeah i've seen it happen aswell. At end of 2nd season I signed Fabio (DL/WBL/ML) on a free as Man Utd released him. Only really signed him for my reserves as hadn't got a left back. Then half way through the season all of the top european clubs were enquiring about him, so looked at his stats and he was awesome. He is now my first choice left back and is still only about 20.

Same happened to me with Carrick, nearly every stat increased, it has happend about 2/3 times with Carrick and he's what, 26 or so?

i bought gyan in the first season and now he's better than he was. btw, he's 24 when i signed him.
