Default Conceding too many goals....

I'm Blackburn Rovers and i'm doing PB's Rebuild England Challenge and the January transfer window is looming. As the thread reads i'm conceding too many goals - 28 in 18 games to be exact, which is the 4th worst in the division. Luckily Benni and Santa Cruz are banging them in up top

Anyhoo....was wondering if anyone knows a solid centre back that I could sign(must be English)!?

I don't have too big a transfer budget as I have already signed a few players but any advice would be greatful coz I'm looking to sell players to generate cash!

Cheers.

Does Davenport improve? Coz his stats at the moment look pretty average! Does Wheater have the potential to be a solid premiership CB? Billy Jones could be a good option as I doubt i'll be able to raise enough cash to tempt Michael Dawson away from Spurs! Anyone had experience with Wheater?

Thanks.

Do what the other big clubs do when they need english talent, pillage west ham.

Anton is a very nice all-round defender who has the pace to keep up with a fair few strikers. Calum is a bit mediocre in comparison, but still good. If you're in your first season, Upson might still be useful for you, again has the speed you'll want. I've never bought any of these before (used them though) so I can't tell you what they'd set you back.

Outside of them, you've got Jagielka who has most of the key defender stats and some nice passing but is weak in the air. On the plus side, he's versatile, and shouldn't cost more than £7m.

There's Lescott, a more traditional center back with good aerial but is ever so slightly slower (might make a difference against pacey players who will take their shots quickly). He's also pricier, I've never seen him move cheaper than £10m.

Depending on the flexibility of the challenge, you could also go for Yobo, given his second nationality is English. He's by far the best out of the lot imo, high technical and a physical beast to boot. He's a nigerian starter though, and I've yet to see an offer accepted for him (I've tried up to 12 at various times with no success).

Dawson is another good choice, but far too slow for my taste. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice dude. I bought Jack Hobbs at the start of the season from Liverpool for £700K so I'm hoping he turns out to be solid for me but i'm just gonna nurture him for a few seasons I think! Looks like i'll be trying to unsettle a few West Ham defenders then

The best way to not concede goals is by playing a 4-2-1-1-2 as teams find it hard to break you down

I've used hobbs on a "start unemployed" game where I ended up with leicester. I got promoted in the second year thanks to some outstanding performances of his, and he held his place in the prem. Send him to a championship/league 1 side for a year or two and he should blossom.

If desperate you could probably loan evans from man united, he doesn't start great either but he'd have a decent chance to work well.

As I said the player must be English! Anyways I went with the advice of marcftm and bought David Wheater from Boro. He has been solid so far and i'm hoping it continues! Also brought in Danny Simpson from Man Utd to replace Brett Emerton - always a good buy!

Cheers.
