Ok, so it's widely regarded that SWYCT and SYB are the ways to go in terms of scouting, this makes it realistic.
However, what about your Favourite Club, as selected when you join the game? If it actually IS your real-life favourite clubm, you'd probably have some knowledge of who is likely to want to leave, who would be good to snap up on a loan, etc. Since you're a fan of the club, you'd know things like that, right?
I'm not looking to "cheat" the LLM ethos or anything, I think it rawks. I just think it's a bit weird that the manager in the game as to scout EVERY player. Surely, being a football manager, he'd have some knowledge of players he's seen play? This would mostly be limited to Premiership teams, apart from the people that support teams from the Nationwide and stuff.
I never was good at explaining stuff, but hopefully you get the jist of my question; "Is it ok to sign/loan players from your managers 'favourite club' without scouting them?"
Uhh, *edit*, when I said "This would mostly be limited to Premiership teams, apart from the people that support teams from the Nationwide and stuff.", obviously that would be reletive to the league you're managing in. A German manager would know quite a few Bundesliga players, for example.
Of course, this is offset by the fact that players that high up probably wouldn't want to sign with you anyway
Unless you are also the SI researcher for said club, how do you know if the research team rate the player the same as you do?
Scout everyone, even the ones you think you ought to know. I've seen players (a FC my scouts all raved about) who are good IRL but couldn't hit the proverbial cow's arse with a banjo in the game.
You're a wet-behind-the-ears manager who's been supporting your local club, Darlington (yeah..this is DEFINATELY just an example ), all his life. Now you're in charge at Barnet, and (IMHO), it's perfectly viable that a few of the youngsters at Darlo might come on loan to you.
Of course, they might not..but just because they don't want to come on loan doesn't mean you have no idea who they are.
My point is, scouting players before you buy them is all well and good, but it just seems a bit off that your fantasy manager has no idea who any of the players are, thus would have to scout EVERYONE. Even those at the club he supports.
Darlington's youngsters are likely to have relatively randomized stats as freqently happens with less well know players. Scout everyone. It's a way of evening out one of the imperfections in the game.
Scouting all players is a guideline. Most on this board do, some will take loan players from the search screen without scouting, I do occasionally. Play it how you think is realistic. If it suits you to play this way then fine.
