So, anyways...I took over on the 4th and Coventry sacked their manager on the 5th, and he just happened to be my old AssMan, so I signed him
The squad were in disarray. Most of them were unhappy, all had poor moral, there were a few really good players, but they were languishing in the low 6's for averages. We were standing in 18th place, but the bottom three had a one point seperator and 17th were 4 points ahead.
The first game we played was against Stoke in the FA Cup 4th round. I made my old mate from East Stirling, Blackburn and Dundee United Captain, and he scored 2 in the first half, but events took a bad turn and we drew 2-2.
We then lost the next two League games and ended up 19th.
We beat Stoke 3-0 in the replay and won the next two League games to give us a wee platform to build on and the signing of three frees and a couple of defenders bought for the £5m available money bolstered things slightly for the push on the "safe mid-table" position the Board and Fans wanted.
Our Scottish MC wanted away, and a flying £7.5m bid by Rotherham just before the end of the transfer window gave us more transfer funds, which of course we couldn't spend because of the window closing.
So we made do with a couple of frees to shore up the midfield.
The squad really looked quite good when things started to look up and we rolled up our sleeves and got down to work.
Long story short, we got to the semi-final of the FA Cup, where Liverpool(

) stopped our progress with a goal in the first minute and a stunning goalie MoM for a 1-0 win, and we went P19, W9, D4, L6 to finish 14th in the League.
This pleased the Board and the Fans and got rid of the collection of unh's from the players.
All in all I'm pretty pleased with the way things went, 14th may not be Europe, but it's a sight better than relegation.
Season 2 is about to begin, we've signed an Argie from River Plate (he was on loan at Birmingham when I spotted him) and had 14 youngsters promoted to the U-19's. We've got a sizeable £9m budget, but I'm holding on to it.
You can take the man out of Scotland....
