Middlesbrough trialled a certain Cardiff City/Wales striker whilst we languished in the depths of division 3 (league two ). It gave them more time to look at him in depth, and also to see how he fared against Premiership players (albeit in a training environement) rather against pedestrian basement division defenders.

Knowing players in ways other than scouting Post #12
About trialing contracted players. Here it's pretty common, usually during European close-season. Our championship is played Mar-Oct, so sometimes a player isn't available for a match being on trial with some European club. Of cause, if his team has any interest in selling him.
Some conclusion on signing maybe?
1. Getting to know about player:
1a. via scouting
1b. via in-game media sources (transfer speculations, regular awards, casual news)
2. "Exploring" player:
2a. trial
2b. watch his form in his team
3. Signing or being refused.
That's okay?

Yup. Still, FSB must be FCS, if we talk about acronyms (Federal Security Service). It won't be nearly as famous as their predecessor. My grandfather used to tell me stories of his job as KGB's officer... sweet USSR times...

I wonder if the FSB still do the, feeding of the live spy slowly into the incinerator, trick?

No, they are too poofy to do so. :p They can only fight lads like Lukoil owner
