I thought it was time I started an update thread on my current Italian adventure. Montichiari is a club I have managed previously on CM4 but never got past C1, mainly due to the game being only four seasons long and the dreaded play-off semi finals. So I have come back to finish the challenge, this time in CM 03/04.

Coming into the club, financially it was very limited. A small transfer budget of £16k was handed out with a club balace of an impressive £170k and a poor sponsership deal of £32.5k. The wage bill was already hovering just above its measly confines. The finances were always going to be the tough point for this club.
Looking at the squad however I was pleasantly surprised. It was a small squad and a young squad but there was some talent, certainly enough to meet the expectations. The team didn't need much tampering except for the lack of any left backs. The coaching staff comprised of one assistant manager, one Argentinian coach, three physios and one scout. The scout was immediately sent out around Italy and we were able to buy a promising D L for £8k from Olbia another C2 team. The one out was a hopeless young M RC who was sold for £0 to U.S.O. Calcio and Seria D obscurity.
The season started with the cup and we were knocked out at the group stage but performed alright. Once the league got going however we hit top gear with the main S C and the AM L both unstoppable and we quickly moved to top spot on the table. Our defense despite its inexperience turned out to be quite tight and by the New Year we were the clear leaders. The only worry the squads depth.

We continued on merry way after the small break keeping our lead at the top of the table. This continued until with the finish line in sight we stumbled and only picked up one point from four games. Alto Adige, in good form, closed the gap to only three points with one game left. I suspected a play-off for top spot if we tied at the top, so all we needed from the last game was a point against bottom and already relegated Ivrea away from home. The lads started nervously and conceded a poor early goal while Alto Adige had already gone a couple of goals ahead. However on the stroke of half time our main striker popped up a scored a vital goal. When then cruised to a 3-1 victory and promotion in the second half winning the league by three points!!

Serie C Cup: Group Stage
End of season saw our veteran backup AM L retire and our main SC grabbing Fans Player of the Year after 21 goals, 8 assists and 4 MoM’s, although I would have given it to our AM L. The club lost £90k over the season taking our budget down to a total of £80k, a tad worrying.
Now to look forward to C1!!

Which is what they are. Some people may not agree with them, some may follow them as a bible. Personally, I use them as they make the game much more realistic. Perhaps Sublime you should give them a go. You never know, you may like them.
And Jordi, what was it you asked me on MSN messenger?
Sublime, please don't name players. I am sure it was just a slip up, but read the rules next time.
