And Jordi, what was it you asked me on MSN messenger?

Sublime, please don't name players. I am sure it was just a slip up, but read the rules next time.

my bad, I was just caught up in the moment

Season 2 - 03/04

Serie C1/B
Board Expectations: Fight bravely against relegation
Fans Expectations: Fight bravely against relegation

The board and fans were obviously not too optimistic going into this season, as they both feared the worst. To help out the board allocated £12k for transfers. This enabled us to bring in a new first choice DC for £4k from Alto Adige, a backup D RL for £2k from Crociata Parma in the Serie D and an experienced SC on a free from fellow newly promoted club Cremonese. We also had a young GK promoted through the academy. Out went our Cameroonian SC on a free to Castlenuovo and a veteran DC who had performed rather poorly to Teramo, a fellow C1 club for £0k.

We started the season well and progressed through the group stage in the cup with three wins and one loss. We then beat Cremonese on penalties in the first round, beat Catanzaro 4-3 in the second round and eventually lost 4-5 to a late second leg goal to Aglianese in the quarter finals.

Our league form started fairly solidly with both our new DC and SC starting well and our original SC and AM L both continuing were they left off. Our veteran GK however at 40 years of age was starting to look past it and conceded some worrying goals. At the half way mark we sat comfortable mid-table.

Going into the second half something happened. Our AM C out of nowhere hit top form. Up until this point he had been average at best but suddenly he hit a hot streak that included scoring 12 goals in the second half of the season all from midfield. This combined with dropping our veteran keeper shot us up the league with a 16 game unbeaten streak to 3rd place and the playoffs.

In the semis we demolished L’Aquila 4-1 at home then played out a relaxed 0-0 at home. In the final we met Teramo, the home of one of our old DCs. In the home leg this certain DC came off the bench and you wouldn’t believe but he actually didn’t do anything (I normally get done over by former players!!). Home leg finished 0-0, we then dominated the away leg and won 2-0. Promotion again!!

End of season saw our veteran backup D RL retire and our main SC grabbing back to back Fans Player of the Year after 26 goals, 13 assists and 9 MoM’s, although once again I would have given it to our AM L. The club lost £90k over the season taking our budget £10k into the red. :o

Yeah, the team is definately performing above their abilities, just seemed to be unstoppable second half of the season. Once we hit good form it didn't stop. CM 03/04 seems to be fairly easy to get successive promotions, hopefully next season will be a bit harder. Looking at the Serie B teams the teams are a whole lot better, one players earns more than my whole team!!

As for job offers, my nationality is Australian so its no surprise I haven't had any offers.

I found that, with the Italian leagues I could get successve promos eisier than anywhere else, but come B and A it was a different matter.

I've found the gap between C1 and C2 to not be very big, with normally the relegated Serie B teams the only difficulty. However I think the gap between C1 and B is fairly big. Just playing the game I have noticed most relgated B teams dominate C1 and come back up fairly quickly.

The gaps are usually bigger in nations who have larger financial and reputational gaps between the leagues. In England, Div1 and Div2 get pretty good coverage, while in Italy everything below B is dead. Difference between German Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga is similar. Those dreaded relegated Bundesliga teams usually have 10 times your funds available and offer more wages per player than you have available overall.
