Step 1: Sign player on a free. Scouts say he's supposed to be pretty good, and, luckily, he is.
Step 2: Clubs start calling. He's a key part of the team, so I set a high asking price. No problem, they say. They pony up the cash, and I let him go.
Step 3: Guy goes to the other team and is carp. My scouts, who loved him a year ago, now think he's total carp.
What the heck happened? I'm going to try and sign one of these players back - I think they can still play. (Of course, they have no interest in coming back to my team)
I usally sign players who are good and turn out to be carp. Then I try to offload them they leave for free and sign for some team and, omg, they can score goals again...

Do you manage Nottingham Forest in real life by any chance? A certain player lacking 2 testicles scored loads for the Wall of the Mill joined Forest, playedsh!t, went back to Wall of the Mill and has scored against us every game since. Grrrr.
As for FM, I sign players then try for 3 years to get rid of them, they leave at the end of their contract then never get a club again.
