I am interested to know if anyone else is like me and enjoyed watching their players become staff members. I believe even as recently as 06 most managers at the top level were ex-players who had recieved a staff profile and had proved themselves thoughout time. Now it seems like 80% of top notch managers and 50-60% of solid staff are re-gens without any playing experience.
Tbh I've not had a great career game going so far so haven't noticed this at all. But in my Rangers game (currently) I have David Weir who I was hoping to groom as a future coach. Be quite rubbish if I can't.
It used to be quite easy to get your own ageing players signed up to be player/coach, then the natural progression was for him to drop the playing side and become a full-time pro. For me that was more realistic than it has become of late.
More than anything I loved signing a player as your coach and having him signed away by a up and coming team as their manager. I understand that every player in real life has a certain amount of interest in certain area he would like to extend his career (i.e. manager, assistant manager, coach). How many people though that have the dedication to become a assistant manager will turn down managing for a Championship side? Even League One I would say. My game is in 2016 only two ex-players (that were players when I started my game) are managing. Neville (Ispwich) and Sami Hyypia (Tottenham)

Also how do you groom a player for a specific job? I mean yes you can go to the press and state that you think he would be a good coach or manager, but from what I have seen is a player will do pretty much what he says he is interested in doing.
